The Colorado Buffaloes put a clean finish on the 50th anniversary of the Milwaukee Tennis Classic, taking down Wisconsin in both doubles and singles action on Sunday in Glendale, Wis.
Colorado’s lone doubles point of the day came from Lera Alexin and Ema Bubalo, who beat Wisconsin’s Karolina Jacobson, a Colorado native, and Gabriela Skrabalova, 6-2. The Buffs got off to the better start, grabbed the opening game, and after Wisconsin briefly pulled even at 1-1, Colorado ripped off three straight games to seize control. The Badgers trimmed the margin to 4-2, but the Buffs closed it out by winning the last two games.
Louise Ternstroem, CU’s first-year player making her Colorado debut, was the only Buffalo to play singles on Sunday, and she made it count. Ternstroem took the first set 6-3, dropped a tight second set 7-6, then held on in the deciding tiebreaker to edge Jacobson.
"I thought our group made some good progress this weekend," CU head coach Anthony Pham said. "We played a ton of matches, competed well, and are showing strong maturity in how we handle adversity"
Colorado finished the weekend after a stretch that included six doubles matches and 15 singles matches over the previous two days. The Buffs will head back home to practice this week before the Bedford Cup, set for Sept. 25-27 at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs.
"We are excited to get back to practice, to prepare for the Bedford Cup in a couple of weeks," Pham said.

Colorados defense gave Buffs fans a little something to hang onto Saturday, even in a game where Weber State still moved the ball. Weber State coach Eric Kjar said the Buffaloes adjusted their pressure and coverage in ways that made his offense work for every clean look, a sign of a unit trying to solve problems on the fly rather than letting the game settle in against it.
Weber State still finished with 372 yards and 23 first downs, and Noah Kjar was the clear focal point with seven catches for 121 yards and two touchdowns. Eric Kjar said the next challenge for his offense is finding ways to spread things around more, especially as defenses keep keying on Noah Kjar, which is exactly the sort of attention Colorados defense seems capable of forcing.
