Colorado Still Needs Two Hyped Transfers To Rescue This Offense

As the Colorado Buffaloes lean on a formidable defense, one standout transfer on offense must overcome early setbacks to meet expectations and boost the team's performance.

Colorado has already seen several of its transfer additions make an impact, but one of the headline newcomers still hasn’t lived up to the buzz. Wide receiver Danny Scudero, brought in to give the Buffaloes another dangerous piece in the passing game, has yet to find his footing as Colorado comes out of the bye week.

The defense has been the more reliable side of the ball so far, and a few of the new faces there have wasted no time showing why they were targeted. Tulane defensive lineman Santana Hopper has looked ready for the Power Conference stage.

Edge rusher Toby Anene, who arrived from North Dakota State, has adjusted well. Linebacker Gideon Lampron has also made an immediate jump from a non-Power Four program.

Together, that trio has helped fuel Colorado’s Big 12-leading tackles for loss.

That kind of production has made the offensive struggle stand out even more, and Scudero is at the center of it. Colorado needs the San Jose State transfer to get healthy and dangerous again if it wants to steady the offense and give coach Deion Sanders a much-needed lift after the slow start.

Scudero came to Boulder as the nation’s receiving yards leader out of San Jose State, where he thrived in the Spartans’ Spread-N-Shred system by finding open grass and making defenses pay. Plenty of people expected him to slide right into Brennan Marion’s “Go-Go” offense and become an instant fit. Instead, the transition to the P4 level has been rocky.

A foot issue slowed him early, and he has also had trouble showing the plant-and-go burst that made him such a dangerous receiver in the first place.

Colorado will hope the bye week helps. The Buffaloes return to the field on Oct. 17 for the Utah game, and Marion’s offense could use a healthier version of Scudero in a hurry. The 5-9 receiver has only five catches for 24 yards and no touchdowns so far this season, with just 4.8 yards per reception in 2026.

He’s been watching Joseph Williams emerge as one of the few bright spots on a struggling offense, while Texas transfer DeAndre Moore has helped ease some of the pressure as a vertical threat. Even so, Colorado needs Scudero to become the underneath option that opens up the passing game and gives quarterbacks Isaac Wilson and Julian Lewis another dependable target.

Scudero isn’t the only newcomer under the microscope. Alabama transfer running back Richard Young also needs to do more.

He has fallen behind Sacramento State transfer Damian Henderson II and returning Colorado leading rusher Micah Welch, and his numbers have been quiet: 16 carries, 49 yards, and 3.1 yards per carry. Colorado needs him to contribute and help lighten the load on the rest of the backfield.

Colorados Biggest Bye Week Decision Could Define The Rest Of 2026

The bye week gave Colorado a chance to step back and assess where things have gone after a three-game losing streak, and the biggest question in Boulder is sitting right at the center of the offense. The Buffaloes are weighing their starting quarterback situation as they turn toward a Week 7 meeting with Utah, with Julian Lewis, Isaac Wilson and Kaneal Sweetwyne all part of the conversation.

Deion Sanders has already made clear that this isnt just about one game, but about what kind of direction the program wants to take from here. Lewis still has a path to reclaiming the job if he sharpens his play, while the choice between Wilson and Sweetwyne could say a lot about whether Colorado is aiming for a short-term fix or something more ambitious for the stretch run. No. 23 Colorado Just Delivered The Big 12 Spark Fans Needed

No. 23 Colorado volleyball got the kind of jolt its Big 12 season needed at the CU Events Center, finding a way to outlast Kansas State in a five-set match that tested the Buffaloes from the start. The win gave Colorado a little more breathing room in conference play and pushed its season record to 11-4, a welcome response after a stretch in which every league result has carried extra weight.

Cayla Payne provided a milestone night in the middle with 400 career blocks, while Ines Losada delivered a serving burst that matched her career and season high with five aces. Kansas State made Colorado work for it and left Boulder with a 9-5 overall mark and a 2-4 Big 12 record, but the bigger takeaway for the Buffaloes was the resilience they showed when the match could have slipped away early. Colorado Golf Faces A Tough Big 12 Test Right Away

Colorados mens golf team is in Salt Lake City and ready for the Big 12 Match Play Championships, a three-day conference event that puts every league program into head-to-head competition. The tournament is set for Monday through Wednesday at Salt Lake Country Club, and the Buffs will lean on a six-player group that includes seniors Brandon Knight and Ty Holbrook as they get their first big look at the conference landscape this fall.

The seeding gives Colorado a tricky starting point, with the Buffs placed seventh in Pool B and facing an immediate stretch that will test how quickly they can settle in. Late-October golf in Salt Lake City can bring less-than-perfect conditions, and Colorado will need to navigate that as it works through pool play before any chance at crossover bracket matches.
