After wrapping up his fourth season as head coach at Gainesville High School, Josh Niblett seemed content with his high school coaching legacy. But when Deion Sanders came calling, the allure of college football was too strong to resist. Now, Niblett is bringing his expertise to the Colorado Buffaloes as their new tight ends coach.
Reflecting on his journey, Niblett shared, “It’s amazing what happens when you focus and step out in faith.” With 26 years of high school coaching under his belt, including a stellar 281-67 record and seven state titles, he’s ready to make his mark at the collegiate level.
Niblett’s passion for impacting young athletes remains unchanged. “To God be the glory for this opportunity,” he said. “I wake up every day looking to make a difference through football.”
Embracing his new role, Niblett sees himself as the head coach of the tight end room. He’s responsible for their performance and development, both on and off the field. His experience as a head coach equips him to support Sanders and the rest of the coaching staff effectively.
While Niblett will also have a hand in coaching special teams, his primary focus is on the tight ends, who are set to play a crucial role in the newly-installed Go-Go offense. “You need a versatile skill set in this offense,” he explained. “Our guys need to be able to run routes, win matchups, and play within the core.”
With returning starter Zach Atkins leading the group, along with other key players and a new transfer, Fisher Clements, Niblett is excited about the potential. “We’re always looking to enhance our strengths and address our weaknesses,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of a tailored development plan for each player.
Despite the geographical shift from the South to Boulder, Niblett is embracing the change. “The weather and landscape here are more beautiful than I imagined,” he said, settling into his new home with enthusiasm.
Niblett’s journey to Colorado is a testament to the power of faith and opportunity, and the Buffaloes are poised to benefit from his wealth of experience and passion for the game.
