Colorado is back at Folsom Field on Saturday afternoon, and the Buffaloes bring a 1-0 record home with them after one of the wildest openers of the season - a 14-13 win at Georgia Tech last Thursday night.
Now the attention shifts to Weber State, which comes to Boulder at 1-1 for a first-ever meeting between the programs. Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. MT on ESPN+.
For Colorado, this is a chance to build on a road win that came down to the final minute. Trailing 13-7 with 1:40 left and no timeouts, Julian Lewis helped spark an eight-play, 75-yard march by going 4-of-6 for 60 yards.
Charlie Williams finished it off with a 20-yard touchdown catch with :37 remaining, and the Buffs finally moved in front after spending 27:15 of game time behind. Colorado had not led since 12:52 of the second quarter.
The opener also told a bigger story about how CU won. A run defense that was ranked 133rd last year at 222.5 yards per game held Georgia Tech - which ranked 21st at 197.5 - to just 51 yards on 30 carries, a 1.7-yard average.
The Yellow Jackets had four rushing touchdowns, but no run went longer than 11 yards. Georgia Tech gained 33 yards on its opening possession and then managed only 18 yards over the final three-and-a-half quarters.
Colorado also controlled the ball and leaned on the ground game. The Buffs ran 49 times for 183 yards and a touchdown, and they owned possession for 34:09. One sequence said plenty about the approach: a 17-play, 61-yard drive that burned 9:07 off the clock included 15 straight run plays.
Saturday is also a notable home opener in the larger context of the season. It marks just the eighth time CU has returned to Folsom Field with a 1-0 record after opening against a Power 4 opponent.
Coach Prime is one of only two coaches, along with Eddie Crowder, to beat two Power 4 teams on the road in a season opener, doing it in 1970-71 at Indiana and LSU. Colorado also won at TCU in 2023.
Weber State arrives after beating Northern Colorado in Greeley on Aug. 28 and then losing to Southern Utah last Saturday. The Wildcats’ trip to Boulder comes after their 1-1 start, and it will be their first crack at Colorado.
