Colorado’s defense may have found a real piece in Jah Jah Boyd, and the early returns are hard to ignore.
Just days after the Buffaloes rolled past Weber State 52-21 at Folsom Field in Boulder, Pro Football Focus named Boyd the highest-graded safety in college football for Week 2. His 92.6 grade was the best at the position across the country and put him firmly in the conversation as one of Colorado’s top defensive X-factors.
That kind of recognition matters even more because Boyd is still carving out his role in Boulder. The defensive back came to Colorado as an undergraduate transfer from Indiana in 2026, and the official roster lists him with three years of eligibility remaining. In other words, the Buffaloes may have plenty of time to see what he can become.
Boyd’s path before Colorado wasn’t packed with heavy snaps, but the flashes were there. At Indiana, PFF gave him a 90.1 grade across 47 defensive snaps, and he allowed just one catch for nine yards in that stretch. Colorado clearly saw enough to bring him in, and his Week 2 performance suggested that faith was well placed.
Against Weber State, Colorado’s offense did plenty of damage, with quarterback Julian Lewis leading the way, but Boyd made sure the defense had its own standout.
