Colorado Linked to Top Mississippi Recruit in Bold 2027 Recruiting Move

Colorado continues to gain traction with elite 2027 talent as top offensive line prospect LiMarcus Jones adds the Buffs to his official visit plans.

The recruiting momentum in Boulder continues to build, and the latest name to enter the mix is a big one-literally and figuratively. Li’Marcus “Bug” Jones, a four-star offensive tackle out of Jackson (Miss.)

Callaway, has locked in plans for an official visit with Colorado. The date is still to be finalized, but the Buffaloes are firmly in the running for one of the top offensive linemen in the 2027 class.

Standing at 6-foot-6 and tipping the scales at 300 pounds, Jones brings the kind of size and athletic profile that college coaches dream about anchoring their offensive line. He’s currently ranked No. 164 nationally, No. 18 among offensive tackles, and No. 7 overall in the state of Mississippi for the 2027 cycle, according to 247Sports.

Jones is the third 2027 prospect to schedule an official visit to Colorado, joining wide receiver Khalil Taylor from Pine-Richland (Pa.) and defensive lineman Khing Thibodeaux out of Lakeview Centennial (Texas). Taylor is set to visit the weekend of May 15, while Thibodeaux is scheduled for June 5. The Buffaloes are clearly laying the groundwork early for a strong 2027 class.

Jones’ recruitment has been heating up for some time. He’s already drawn offers from more than 30 FBS programs, and earlier this winter, he narrowed his list to a top 12: Alabama, Auburn, Colorado, Duke, Florida State, Georgia, Liberty, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Purdue, Tennessee, and Texas A&M. That’s a who’s who of college football heavyweights, and it speaks volumes about how highly regarded Jones is on a national scale.

So far, he’s taken unofficial visits to Kentucky, Mississippi State, and Purdue-giving those programs an early opportunity to make their pitch in person. But Colorado, led by Deion Sanders and his staff, is clearly making a strong push to get Jones on campus and into the Buffs’ long-term plans.

Jones has taken a unique path through high school football in Mississippi. He started his freshman year at Callaway, transferred to Hartfield Academy for his sophomore season, and then returned to Callaway as a junior, where he’s now emerged as one of the top offensive line prospects in the country. And it’s not just his physical tools that stand out-Jones is also getting it done in the classroom with a 3.6 GPA, a detail that won’t go unnoticed by college coaches looking for high-character, academically focused recruits.

Nicknamed “Bug,” Jones might not sound intimidating at first glance, but make no mistake-his game is anything but small. His combination of size, mobility, and football IQ makes him a potential cornerstone tackle at the next level. And with Colorado now officially in the mix for a visit, the Buffs are positioning themselves to make a serious impression.

As the 2027 recruiting cycle begins to take shape, Jones is a name to watch closely. His visit to Boulder could be a pivotal step in what’s shaping up to be one of the more competitive recruitments in the country.
