Colorado Just Built Serious Big 12 Momentum At A Major Meet

Colorado's cross country team shines at the Nuttycombe Invitational, led by Meshack Kipruto's record-breaking performance.

Colorado left Verona with a pair of top-five team finishes and one standout performance that stole the day.

At the Nuttycombe Invitational on Friday morning, the No. 6 Buffaloes men finished second and the No. 16 women placed fifth, with Meshack Kipruto powering the men’s side by winning the championship race and resetting the standard on Nuttycombe’s Thomas Zimmer Championship Course. His time of 22 minutes, 30.1 seconds broke both the meet record and the 8K course record.

Kipruto’s run gave Colorado a clear headliner, but the rest of the men backed it up well enough to keep the Buffaloes firmly in the hunt. Isaiah Givens finished 14th in 22:52.2, Jake Liebert was 21st in 23:07.7, Lukas Haug took 26th in 23:12.1 and Jack Graffeo placed 31st in 23:16.0. Stephen Ndugu and Peter Bii also scored for Colorado, finishing 106th and 136th.

Colorado’s 93 points trailed only New Mexico, which won the men’s title with 59. BYU finished third with 146, followed by Arkansas with 208 and Florida with 221.

“The men were very good today,” Head Coach Sean Carlson said. “[Kipruto] as a true 19-year-old freshman winning this meet is incredibly impressive.”

The women put together their own solid showing behind Sheylah Kurgat, who led the Buffaloes with a seventh-place finish in the 6K championship race at 19:24.3. Adrianna Buitelaar came in 16th at 19:38.8, Abbey Mathison was 21st in 19:43.7, and Holly Barker finished 51st in 20:18.7. Bella Jacobsen, Jessie Secor and Emma Hoffman also crossed for Colorado.

West Virginia won the women’s team title with 66 points. Florida was second with 111, Northern Arizona third with 130, New Mexico fourth with 157 and Colorado fifth with 166.

“The women ran fantastic,” Carlson said. “We're really proud of where they are and where they continue to go.”

Colorado will next head to Stillwater, Okla., for the Big 12 Championships on Saturday, Oct. 31.

Colorado Still Needs Two Hyped Transfers To Rescue This Offense

Several of Colorados new transfers have already made their presence felt on defense, with Santana Hopper, Toby Anene and Gideon Lampron giving Deion Sanders useful early contributions on that side of the ball. The offense, though, is still waiting for a couple of headline additions to catch up to the hype, and the Buffaloes have been left trying to piece together more consistency around the players who were supposed to deepen the skill positions.

Danny Scudero has been slowed early and has not yet given Colorado the explosive receiver boost it hoped for, while Richard Youngs workload has been limited enough to keep the Buffaloes searching for another dependable option behind the top of the offense. For a team still trying to settle into the season, getting more out of those transfers would go a long way toward changing the feel of the unit as the schedule moves on. [Read more 🡒]

Colorados Biggest Bye Week Decision Could Define The Rest Of 2026

The bye week gave Colorado a chance to step back and assess where things have gone after a three-game losing streak, and the biggest question in Boulder is sitting right at the center of the offense. The Buffaloes are weighing their starting quarterback situation as they turn toward a Week 7 meeting with Utah, with Julian Lewis, Isaac Wilson and Kaneal Sweetwyne all part of the conversation.

Deion Sanders has already made clear that this isnt just about one game, but about what kind of direction the program wants to take from here. Lewis still has a path to reclaiming the job if he sharpens his play, while the choice between Wilson and Sweetwyne could say a lot about whether Colorado is aiming for a short-term fix or something more ambitious for the stretch run. No. 23 Colorado Just Delivered The Big 12 Spark Fans Needed

No. 23 Colorado volleyball got the kind of jolt its Big 12 season needed at the CU Events Center, finding a way to outlast Kansas State in a five-set match that tested the Buffaloes from the start. The win gave Colorado a little more breathing room in conference play and pushed its season record to 11-4, a welcome response after a stretch in which every league result has carried extra weight.

Cayla Payne provided a milestone night in the middle with 400 career blocks, while Ines Losada delivered a serving burst that matched her career and season high with five aces. Kansas State made Colorado work for it and left Boulder with a 9-5 overall mark and a 2-4 Big 12 record, but the bigger takeaway for the Buffaloes was the resilience they showed when the match could have slipped away early.
