Colorado is making an early run at one of the more intriguing names in the 2028 class, and the family ties are impossible to miss.
LaGarrette Blount Jr., the son of the three-time Super Bowl-winning running back who starred for the New England Patriots, announced on the morning of Nov. 7 that Colorado had extended him an offer. The timing came before the Buffaloes took on Arizona State in Tempe. Along with Deion Sanders, Blount Jr. said Colorado director of player personnel Darrius Darden-Box was among the coaches who offered him.
“After a great meeting with @CoachBox6 I am blessed to receive a D1 Offer from The University of Colorado @CUBuffsFootball @DeionSanders #Skobuffs #AGTG @angxfoster @CoachJonRoberts @coachJArtis @MP_PrideFB @LG_Blount @BrandonHuffman pic.twitter.com/tupESvDag3”
Blount made his name as a hard-charging, downhill back under Bill Belichick in New England, and he also had a standout run at Oregon. His son is taking a different route, showing off a broader skill set while playing at Mountain Pointe High in Phoenix, Arizona.
What stands out first with Blount Jr. is how much more than a one-position prospect he looks like right now. On defense, he reads quarterbacks well, jumps routes and has the kind of instincts that can flip a possession in a hurry.
He has already shown the ability to turn one of those reads into a pick six. He’s also got range on the back end, including an interception near the goal line for his school.
That kind of ball production is the sort of thing Colorado defensive coordinator Chris Marve can appreciate, especially with the Buffaloes looking ahead to future safety help.
The offense is just as interesting. Colorado offensive coordinator Brennan Marion likely sees the speed right away.
Blount Jr. can run past single coverage, then separate even more once he hits his second gear. That makes him a real deep threat.
Mountain Pointe also trusts him in the red zone, where he can win against man coverage with sharp releases and finish with strong concentration catches in the end zone.
If Colorado lands him, it would fit a pattern that’s already taking shape in Boulder. Sanders built his own legacy as a two-way star, then coached Travis Hunter, one of college football’s most celebrated versatile players.
Colorado has also put Chauncey Gooden on the defensive line after originally plugging the interior offensive lineman there. The Buffaloes have clearly leaned into the idea of chasing future two-way standouts.
Blount Jr. could be next in that line. He has the explosiveness to make plays on either side of the ball, and the NFL pedigree only adds to the appeal.
Colorado won’t have this one to itself, though. Oregon, his father’s alma mater, has already offered.
So has Ohio State. North Carolina is in the mix too, with Belichick making a push for the son of his former player.
Even so, Blount Jr. has quickly become a major target for Colorado in the 2028 class.

Arizona State Could Catch Colorado At A Very Good Time
Arizona State may be catching Colorado at an awkward moment, with the Buffaloes heading into Week 10 still dealing with a trimmed-down injury picture. Colorado said most of the players who had been considered hopeful for the matchup are now ruled out, leaving the roster thinner than it looked earlier in the week and putting extra pressure on the available depth.
There is at least some stability at a couple of spots, with cornerback Cree Thomas and center Sean Kinney listed as probable. But the bigger concern is the long list of unavailable contributors, especially on defense, where the absences could force Colorado to shuffle things again just as the schedule tightens and every conference game starts to carry more weight. Buffs Tennis Just Sent An Encouraging Early Message In San Diego
Colorados tennis team opened the San Diego State Invitational with a clean start in doubles, and the early results offered a nice snapshot of a group that looked organized and sharp from the outset. Lera Alexin and Ema Bubalo, Heidi Crncan and Willow Gretsch, and Pia Rebec and Louise Ternstroem all came through in their matches, giving the Buffaloes a strong foundation before singles even began.
The momentum carried into singles, where Crncan and Bubalo added victories of their own to keep the day moving in Colorados direction. For a team trying to build rhythm early in the season, performances like that matter because they hint at depth at the top and across the lineup, even if the bigger picture in San Diego is still unfolding. Colorado Game Day Concern Could Shape Deion Sanders Road Upset Bid
Colorado heads into Saturday nights matchup at Arizona State trying to steady a season that has gone sideways in league play, and the injury report is adding another layer of uncertainty. The Buffaloes are 3-5 overall and 1-4 in conference play, while the Sun Devils come in at 4-4, with kickoff set for 5:30 p.m. MT on ESPN2 and Arizona State listed as a three-point favorite at DraftKings Sportsbook.
The biggest concern for Colorado may be how its defense holds up after Naeten Mitchell was added to the injury report, a development that puts more pressure on a secondary already facing a tricky road test. Colorado is also monitoring Danny Scudero, while Arizona State has its own health questions with running back Jason Brown Jr. out of the mix, and the Buffaloes will have to sort through a few more availability issues before they can fully settle on how they want to attack this one.
