Colorado’s trip to Stillwater on Saturday brings a very different Oklahoma State team than the one it blew out 52-0 in 2024.
The Buffaloes and Cowboys meet Oct. 24 at Boone Pickens Stadium, with kickoff set for 5 p.m. MT on FS1. Oklahoma State is 4-2 overall and 2-1 in Big 12 play, while Colorado comes in at 2-4 and 0-3 in conference play.
One of the biggest markers of the day: it’s a sold-out homecoming game for Oklahoma State, the program’s 105th such game. Colorado has not played in Stillwater since 2009. The Cowboys have won seven of their past 10 homecoming games and own a 58-40-6 record in those contests.
The Cowboys also look nothing like the version Colorado faced a year ago. Eric Morris is in his first season as head coach after three years at North Texas, and Oklahoma State says its roster has been rebuilt almost entirely. The Cowboys list 91 newcomers on a 115-player roster, including 66 transfers, and say that total is the largest in major college football history.
That overhaul has already shown up on the field. Oklahoma State knocked off then-No. 6 Oregon in its second game.
Offensively, the Cowboys have become one of the nation’s most dangerous passing teams. They rank fourth nationally in passing offense and fifth in total offense, with quarterback Drew Mestemaker averaging 323.3 passing yards per game, which ranks second nationally. He has topped 300 passing yards in five straight games.
He has plenty of help. Receiver Wyatt Young is averaging 93.5 receiving yards per game, and running back Caleb Hawkins is averaging 98.7 rushing yards per game. Colorado will have a lot to sort through.
Oklahoma State is also coming off a close loss at No. 20 Houston.
The Cowboys fell 35-32 on Oct. 17 after trailing 14-3 at halftime. Mestemaker passed for 365 yards and three touchdowns, and Hawkins added a career-high 125 receiving yards.
Oklahoma State finished with two turnovers and a season-high nine penalties.
Even with the changes in Stillwater, Colorado still holds the edge in the series. The Buffaloes lead 27-20-1 in the record books, including a 12-11-1 advantage in Stillwater. Oklahoma State has won three of the past four meetings, including the 52-0 win in Boulder last season.

Jace Holleys Return Could Change Colorados Attack In A Hurry
A long rehab stretch and a pair of doctor clearances finally put Jace Holley back on the field for Colorado, giving the Buffaloes another attacking option just when the season was starting to find its rhythm. The junior forward worked through the physical grind of recovering from an ankle injury and the mental strain that comes with watching the early portion of a season unfold from the sideline, then made her season debut on Sept. 24.
Since returning, Holley has already shown why her presence matters, adding assists and goals as she worked her way back into game shape. For Colorado, the next question is how quickly she can settle into a regular attacking role and add another layer to a group that suddenly looks more dangerous with her available. [Read more 🡒]
Colorado Got An Early Answer On Which New Buffs Can Help
Colorados first look at its new basketball group came in useful fashion Sunday, even in an exhibition that ended with a 67-64 win over North Texas in the Mile High Hoops Classic. The Buffaloes got an encouraging debut from freshman Alex Dickeson, who showed up in a bunch of different ways, while Inman gave Tad Boyle more reason to feel good about the depth behind the main rotation with a steadier, more versatile effort off the bench.
Justin Neely also flashed why he could matter right away, coming close to a triple-double before leaving in the second half with a minor knee injury. Boyle said he liked what he saw from the newcomers, but the game also served its purpose as an early checkpoint, with Colorado still sorting out exactly how much help this group can provide once the real season starts and the margins get smaller. Deion Sanders Just Raised A Bigger Danny Scudero Question For Colorado
Danny Scuderos return remains on hold as Colorado continues to manage the wide receivers foot injury, the kind of nagging setback that can linger well beyond the original timetable. The injury showed up before the 2026 season and has already limited his playing time, leaving the Buffaloes to weigh whats best for a player they clearly still see as part of their future.
Deion Sanders has made it clear the program is thinking beyond the next game, even with Oklahoma State coming up on the schedule. Colorado does not want to rush Scudero back, and the conversation around his status has shifted toward whether he plays again this season at all, with medical redshirt eligibility now part of the equation.
