Colorado quarterback Julian “JuJu” Lewis is recovering after a medical emergency Wednesday at a CU athletic facility that led to his being taken to a hospital.
Lewis’ father, T. Carlton Lewis, said Thursday that his son is on the mend and asked for privacy. The cause of the emergency has not been made public.
Colorado Athletics also said it is standing by Lewis and his family as he recovers.
"Colorado Athletics extends our full support to JuJu and his family through this medical emergency," the university said. "He remains in the thoughts of every CU player, coach, and staff member, and we will continue to assist in any way we can in his full recovery. His health and well-being remain our top priority during this time."
T. Carlton Lewis added that his son is appreciative of the people around him.
"He is recovering and thankful to his medical team, teammates, and Colorado fans for their prayers and support," he said.
Receiver Joseph Williams also showed support on social media. He posted, "Praying for you 10, I love you man. God has your back, twin," Williams wrote.
Williams followed that with another post calling attention to athlete well-being.
"Y'all are so quick to judge us but don’t know what we may go through; athletes' mental health matters also!!! God bless everyone," he wrote.
Neither Lewis’ family nor Colorado has tied those comments to any diagnosis, and no timetable for his return to football activities has been disclosed. Lewis began the season as Colorado’s starting quarterback and has not played since Sept. 26.

Colorado Answered A Brutal Fourth-Set Collapse With A Needed Home Win
Colorado volleyball got the kind of response it needed at the CU Events Center, shaking off a rough fourth-set letdown and still finding a way to beat Cincinnati in five sets. The Buffs won the first, third and fifth sets, which gave the home crowd plenty to hang onto after Cincinnati had evened the match and threatened to steal the momentum late.
There were also some notable individual markers along the way. Cayla Payne hit a major career milestone, and Jenna Ylivainio supplied a strong all-around night with a personal best in digs while also helping on serve. For a Colorado team trying to steady itself after a brutal swing in the middle of the match, the win offered both relief and a reminder that there is still depth to lean on. [Read more 🡒]
Colorado Faces A Big Opening Against Kansas State If Playmakers Deliver
Colorado heads into its meeting with Kansas State with a chance to make an early statement, but the matchup comes with the usual caveats that have defined this part of the schedule. The Buffaloes have enough playmakers to stress the Wildcats if they can get them in rhythm, and the scouting report points to a game that could hinge on which side handles the key individual matchups better in the opening stages.
Kansas State still has questions hanging over its quarterback spot, which adds another layer of uncertainty to a game already shaped by recent form and injury concerns. For Colorado, the bigger internal wrinkle is how the offense distributes the workload, especially with Deion Sanders indicating Richard Young should be much more involved after barely seeing the field lately. Shedeur Sanders Just Became Colorados Biggest NFL Deadline Debate
As the NFL trade deadline approaches, Shedeur Sanders has become part of a bigger roster conversation in Cleveland, where the Browns are suddenly managing a crowded quarterback room. Browns insider Mary Kay Cabot reported that the team does not plan to move Sanders or Dillon Gabriel unless an offer becomes too good to ignore, a sign that the buzz around the former Colorado star has not translated into urgency inside the building.
For Colorado fans, the intrigue is in what Sanders situation says about his path and how much value Cleveland places on keeping its options open at quarterback. The Browns are not shopping anyone, and there is even a sense they may want to carry four quarterbacks on the roster under head coach Todd Monken, which leaves Sanders in a holding pattern as the Nov. 10 deadline nears.
