Colorado’s 2027 class already had plenty of buzz, but Andre Adams gave Buffaloes fans another reason to lock in on the group with one eye-popping opener in his senior season.
The four-star quarterback, one of the names in Deion Sanders’ recruiting haul, did a little bit of everything for Antioch in a 20-7 win over Mount Juliet. Adams was efficient enough through the air, going 9-for-16 for 106 yards, a 56.2 percent completion rate according to MaxPreps. But the number that really jumped off the page was what he did on the ground.
Adams piled up 248 rushing yards in the game, per MaxPreps, while averaging 14.6 yards per carry on 17 keeper runs. He scored once and ripped off a 46-yard run as Antioch controlled the night.
That kind of production fits neatly with what Colorado offensive coordinator Brennan Marion wants to do. Marion’s “Go-Go” offense has long leaned on quarterbacks who can stress defenses with their legs, and Adams showed exactly that kind of burst. The source material points back to Marion’s time at Howard, where Caylin Newton ran the offense in the Bison’s 43-40 upset of UNLV as a 45-point underdog.
Adams’ biggest burst of the night came from a sidecar running back look to his right. He tucked the ball, sold the edge rusher, and then accelerated into open space for a big gain.
On the play, he slipped past two Mount Juliet defenders before a third tried to track him down. Adams eventually went out of bounds, but not before firing up the crowd and his teammates.
For Colorado fans, the appeal goes beyond the stat line. Antioch is running Marion’s scheme, giving Buffaloes supporters a preview of how Adams looks operating the Go-Go and how comfortable he can be in that system. It also adds another layer of intrigue around Colorado’s future at quarterback once Julian “JuJu” Lewis finishes his collegiate career.
Adams arrived in the season after a junior year that produced 3,418 passing yards and 25 touchdowns. He also added 855 rushing yards and 13 more scores as a runner.
Marion was one of Adams’ main recruiters, and the quarterback’s work in the Go-Go appears to be part of why the Colorado play-caller was drawn to the 6-1 prospect in the first place.
Now Adams is chasing a state title in Tennessee to finish off his prep career. After the way he opened the season, Colorado fans have another reason to keep watching.
