Buffs Gear Up for Action-Packed Weekend in Nevada
The Colorado Buffaloes tennis team, sporting a solid 5-2 record, is gearing up for a challenging three-match weekend in Nevada. They’ll kick things off against UNLV on Friday, followed by a Saturday doubleheader against Gonzaga and Utah Tech.
Last weekend saw the Buffs take a tough 4-0 loss to Alabama, but they bounced back impressively with two 4-1 victories over Minnesota and St. Thomas. This resilience is something head coach Anthony Pham is keen to carry forward.
The upcoming clash with UNLV is particularly intriguing, as the series between the two teams is deadlocked at 6-6. However, Colorado has the momentum, having won the last two encounters, both on neutral ground and at UNLV’s home courts. Coach Pham acknowledges the challenge ahead, noting, "UNLV is a good team, Gonzaga and Utah Tech are also great opportunities for us."
UNLV enters the fray with a 3-1 record, showcasing dominant 7-0 victories in their wins. Their only setback came at the hands of Iowa State, who edged them out 4-3.
Saturday promises to be an exciting day as the Buffs face off against Gonzaga and Utah Tech. Colorado boasts a 2-0 record against the Zags, with their last meeting in 2023 resulting in a 4-2 victory. Gonzaga, matching Colorado with a 5-2 record, has demonstrated their prowess with four flawless victories this season.
The matchup against Utah Tech is a new chapter, as the Buffs have yet to face the Trailblazers. Utah Tech holds a 3-6 record, with victories over Weber State and North Dakota.
“These are our last out-of-conference matches before we jump into Big 12 play,” Pham noted, adding that the team is eager to compete and build on their momentum.
The action kicks off against UNLV at 11 a.m. (MT) on Friday.
On Saturday, Colorado takes on Gonzaga at 11 a.m., followed by Utah Tech at 4 p.m. All matches will be hosted at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, with live updates available @cubuffstennis.
