The Colorado Buffaloes have been one of the busiest programs in the country this offseason, overhauling their roster with a flurry of transfer portal activity. With roughly 35 new commitments and a similar number of departures, the Buffs are in the thick of another dramatic reshaping under head coach Deion Sanders. By the latest count, there are still about 20 scholarship spots left to fill, so don’t expect the roster turnover to slow down just yet.
But amid all the movement, one position group that looks close to being fully stocked is cornerback - and it’s not just full, it’s been completely reimagined. Colorado has brought in a wave of experienced players from the Group of Five ranks, along with some high-upside talent from the FCS level.
One of the more intriguing additions? Paul Omodia.
Omodia arrives in Boulder after a standout season at Lamar, where he earned second-team All-Southland Conference honors. While that might not jump off the page for fans used to Power Five accolades, it’s worth noting that Omodia’s best football may still be ahead of him. He’s a late bloomer with a big frame - listed at 6-foot-2, 200 pounds - and he looks ready to compete physically at the Power Five level.
This is the kind of player Coach Prime gravitates toward. Omodia plays with a physical edge at the line of scrimmage, using his size to disrupt routes early and throw off timing. That aggressive, press-man style fits perfectly with the identity Sanders is building on defense - fast, physical, and fearless.
Given the current state of the cornerback room and the way Omodia’s skill set aligns with the scheme, he’s a name to watch closely heading into spring. If the season started tomorrow, you wouldn’t be out of line penciling him in as a starter.
The Buffs are still building, but at cornerback, they may have found a key piece in Omodia - a player who brings both experience and upside to a defense that’s hungry to make a leap.
