Scott Wedgewood Stuns With Winning Streak for Colorado Avalanche

Amidst a challenging schedule, Scott Wedgewood's stellar goaltending performance makes him the Colorado Avalanche's top choice, despite recent ups and downs.

Scott Wedgewood has been a standout performer for the Avalanche, securing five consecutive wins against some formidable opponents. Despite a tough night against the Pittsburgh Penguins, his recent form has been impressive.

Head coach Jared Bednar praised Wedgewood, saying, "Played fantastic in Dallas, got us a win, won five straight. He’s the guy to go with right now."

Wedgewood, 33, humorously pointed to his performance in the Quebec Nordiques jersey as a mental hurdle. "For whatever reason, I feel like I’m the worst goalie in the league with Nordiques gear on this year, and one of the best without it," he joked.

In the game against the Penguins, Bednar pulled Wedgewood after he allowed three goals on five shots in the first period. Mackenzie Blackwood stepped in, allowing four goals on 15 shots. Despite this, Bednar didn’t place the blame solely on Wedgewood.

Reflecting on the game, Wedgewood said, "Hockey happens. Things are going really good there for a bit for me and playing. Humble pie, take a slice of it, go back to work."

The Avalanche faced a quick turnaround with a crucial matchup against the Dallas Stars looming. Wedgewood emphasized the importance of moving forward: "The game’s quick.

It’s going to happen. Unfortunately, we gave them more than what they gave us, and they obviously capitalized on it.

But that’s one of those nights."

The question of goaltending consistency has arisen, but Bednar remains confident. "I’m always concerned with any player that’s not playing up to the standard that we feel like, where they can play," he noted. "The goal is to have everyone peaking at the right time, at the end of the year."

Blackwood has faced challenges this season, and a significant win could be key to regaining his confidence. As the season progresses, the Avalanche will be looking for both goalies to hit their stride at the perfect moment.
