Gabe Landeskog's Olympic journey has come to an end, as he becomes the second Avalanche player to exit the tournament. After Sweden's nail-biting 2-1 overtime loss to Team USA, Landeskog is set to return to Denver, joining teammate Martin Necas on the journey home.
In a thrilling encounter, Landeskog played a pivotal role in forcing the game into overtime with a clutch, late game-tying goal. However, it was Quinn Hughes who sealed the deal for the Americans in the 3-on-3 overtime, capping off a dominant period where USA outshot Sweden 6-0.
The Americans took an early 1-0 lead, with Dylan Larkin finding the back of the net in the second period, assisted by the dynamic Hughes brothers, Quinn and Jack. Despite several promising chances, the Swedes couldn't find a way past Connor Hellebuyck.
Adrian's one-timer clanged off the post late in the third, but Sweden wasn't done yet. Landeskog set up Lucas Raymond, who delivered a jaw-dropping no-look pass to Mika Zibanejad.
With the net empty and Jacob Markstrom on the bench, Zibanejad's one-timer finally solved Hellebuyck.
Landeskog wraps up his tournament with an impressive tally of two goals and two assists over five games. Unfortunately for Sweden, they'll be heading home without a medal this time.
On the flip side, Brock Nelson and Team USA are gearing up for a semifinal clash against Slovakia. The other semifinal promises to be just as exciting, with Canada set to face off against Finland for a shot at the Gold Medal game.
