The Avalanche head into Sunday night with a clear chance to keep the momentum rolling in Nashville.
Colorado will face the Predators at Bridgestone Arena in one of its two road trips there this season after snapping a two-game skid with a 6-3 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. Nashville, meanwhile, is coming in on short rest after a 3-2 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday night. With the Predators on the second night of a back-to-back, the Avalanche have a shot to catch a tired team.
There doesn’t appear to be much room for lineup surprises. Colorado used a 12-6 setup against Tampa on Friday, and that should carry over into Sunday’s game.
Taylor Makar is expected to dress and fill the 12th forward role, though Nic Roy is traveling with the team to Nashville and remains a possibility. Bednar said Roy is questionable to doubtful for tomorrow but doing more every day.
If Roy gets the nod, Makar would be the one to come out of the lineup.
Nicolas Roy will go to Nashville with the team. Bednar said he’s questionable to doubtful for tomorrow but doing more every day.
L’Heureux’s recovery has been “slow moving.” He’s week to week.

If Roy does end up playing, it would be worth watching whether Makar can get more than eight minutes of ice time.
The Avalanche also won’t have Zachary L’Heureux in the picture for the foreseeable future after the club placed the 23-year-old on LTIR.
Between the pipes, MacKenzie Blackwood should get the start. There’s not much reason to expect Scott Wedgewood to go against his former team, and the scheduling also lines up for Blackwood to take this game.
Colorado doesn’t play again until next Wednesday, when it hosts the New Jersey Devils in what figures to be Connor Hellebuyck’s debut with his new team. That gives Blackwood several days before his next start, and unless Jared Bednar wants to manage his workload ahead of a busier stretch, Sunday and Wednesday both look like Blackwood nights.
Special teams will also be worth tracking after the power play found the net once in the previous game. The adjustments under Brett MacLean have stood out, even if there’s still plenty of work ahead.
T.J. Hughes looked much sharper on the first unit against Tampa, and the second group - with Martin Necas, Artturi Lehkonen, and Brock Nelson - has also shown promise.
A win would move the Avalanche a little closer to the Central Division lead and help them continue pushing to secure their place in the playoff field.

Avalanche Rookie Is Giving MacKinnon A Real Reason For Optimism
T.J. Hughes gave the Avalanche another encouraging look in a 6-3 win over Tampa Bay, and it was the kind of performance that tends to matter most early in a rookies NHL career. The young center showed clear improvement in all the ways Colorado likes to see from a developing player, and the response from the bench matched what showed up on the ice.
Jared Bednar and Nathan MacKinnon both pointed to Hughes work ethic, hockey IQ and his ability to take what he hears in team meetings and apply it during games. For a roster that already knows how important detail and consistency are over the long haul, Hughes progress offers a genuine reason for optimism as he keeps working toward a larger role. Former Av Ross Colton Is Back In A Situation Colorado Should Watch
Ross Coltons name is already back in the trade conversation, and for Avalanche fans that alone is worth a glance. The Athletic recently listed the former Colorado forward, now with the Nashville Predators, as an under-the-radar candidate thanks to his team-friendly cap hit and his playoff background, the kind of profile that tends to draw attention once teams start looking for help.
Colton is in the final season of a four-year deal that carries a $4 million cap hit, and his production has been modest so far with one goal and one assist in 10 games. Colorado does not have an obvious trade chip of its own right now, but the Avalanche may still have roster decisions to make depending on how they view pending unrestricted free agents Artturi Lehkonen and Nicolas Roy, which is why a familiar name like Colton could be the sort of angle worth monitoring. Avalanche Fans Suddenly Have A Reason To Watch Egor Shilov
Egor Shilov is starting to look like a name Avalanche fans will want to keep close tabs on. The forward, taken 43rd overall by Colorado in the 2026 NHL Draft, has opened his season strongly with the Victoriaville Tigres in the QMJHL, piling up six goals and 11 assists in 12 games while continuing to build a profile as one of the more intriguing prospects in the organization.
For a team always hunting for the next wave of help, that kind of production is enough to make Shilov worth tracking well beyond draft season. He is still in the development stage, of course, and any NHL timeline remains uncertain, but the early returns at least give Colorado something encouraging to follow as it looks ahead to what he might become down the road.
