Travis Bazzana Stuns with Two Homers Despite Minor League Assignment

Despite starting the season in Triple-A, Guardians' top prospect Travis Bazzana is riding high on spring training success that promises a bright future.

Travis Bazzana might not be on the Guardians’ Opening Day roster, but don't let that fool you into thinking his potential is anything less than sky-high.

This weekend, Bazzana showcased his power by launching two home runs during the Guardians’ spring training matchup against the Giants. Despite the Guardians' decision to start him in Triple-A, his performance was a clear signal of what's to come.

Bazzana's spring training stint was brief yet impactful, playing in just eight games due to his World Baseball Classic commitments. In those appearances, he slashed an impressive .381/.435/.857, with three home runs and 11 RBIs. Five of those RBIs came in his standout game against the Giants.

His first homer was a solo shot in the fifth inning, clocking in at a blistering 112.4 mph off the bat, against two-time All-Star Robbie Ray. Later, he launched a grand slam off Trevor McDonald, just clearing the right-field wall.

Bazzana also homered against the Dodgers earlier in spring training and added another during the World Baseball Classic. Reflecting on his performance, Bazzana expressed confidence, saying, “I feel like this has been a good steppingstone on the backend of spring training.”

Starting the season in Triple-A, Bazzana will be a key piece of infield depth alongside fellow prospect Juan Brito. While Brito has a clearer path to the majors as a member of the Guardians’ 40-man roster, Bazzana is poised to be one of the first call-ups if the team needs reinforcement in the middle infield.

Brayan Rocchio is expected to start at second base but has a career batting average of .222, meaning his position isn't set in stone. Bazzana, having finished last season in Triple-A with a .420 on-base percentage before an oblique injury, is healthy and ready to make his mark in the big leagues.

“I feel I learned a lot. I feel I got a lot out of camp and I’m excited to move into the season,” Bazzana shared, signaling he's ready for the challenges ahead.
