Cleveland’s top minor league story in 2026 has a clear name attached to it: Ralphy Velazquez.
The Guardians’ 2023 first-round pick has gone from an intriguing bat to one of the game’s most dangerous hitting prospects, and his production this season has pushed his stock even higher. First baseman/outfielder Ralphy Velazquez has taken a real step forward in the minors, turning a strong profile into one that now looks like it could play at the highest level.
Bleacher Report recently picked a minor leaguer of the year for every organization, and Joel Reuter singled out Velazquez with high praise.
“Velazquez has some of the best raw power of any prospect, and more than enough hit tool to fully utilize it at the next level. The 21-year-old put up an absurd .356/.433/.867 line with 15 home runs in 23 games in August, and he should have a real shot at an Opening Day roster spot in 2027,” Joel Reuter wrote.
That kind of production fits the arc of Velazquez’s season. He came into 2026 with more raw power than game power, the sort of label that suggests big strength but some room to grow in how often the ball actually leaves the park. This year, that gap closed fast.
His previous career high was 22 home runs, set last year across High-A and Double-A in 122 games. In 121 games between Double-A and Triple-A this season, he has already reached 29.
Even with that jump in power, he has kept the contact in place. His line across those two levels is .290/.379/.548, along with a 142 wRC+.
The Guardians could have Velazquez in the middle of their lineup right now if they wanted to. He could help them push toward the postseason and possibly their third straight division title. For now, though, Cleveland is taking the cautious route.
