Parker Messick keeps stacking up reasons to believe, and now he’s getting national recognition to match.
Greg Amsinger of MLB Network put together a ranking of the 2026 rookie class this week, and the Cleveland Guardians left-hander landed at No. 5 overall. He was the highest-ranked pitcher on the list.
“At No. 5, this is the best pitcher in this rookie class. Parker Messick, as he broke into the big leagues last year, has a sub-3 ERA.
I’m just honing in on his 19 starts this year. The All-Star is No. 5-best rookie in all of baseball on Greg’s list,” Amsinger said.

The ranking comes after another strong outing on Tuesday, when Messick helped Cleveland pick up a key win. His season ERA now sits at 2.68, and he’s logged 117.2 innings with 2.9 fWAR.
Messick’s rise has gone well beyond rookie hype. He was already turning heads last year with a 2.72 ERA in 39.2 innings, but 2026 has given the Guardians a much larger sample of what he can do. The result is a pitcher who looks every bit like a frontline arm.
For Cleveland, that matters in a big way. Messick is 25 years old and comes with five and a half years of cheap team control, giving the Guardians a rotation anchor they can build around. He’s not just their top rookie anymore; he’s become one of the most dependable pitchers in the league.
