The Guardians have spent the week trying to steady themselves after the trade deadline, but one new face has already jumped in and changed the look of the lineup. While Cleveland has dropped five of its last six and opened 0-3 since adding five potential contributors, Nathaniel Lowe has wasted no time making an impact.
Acquired on Monday after coming over from Cincinnati, the left-handed first baseman has been one of the few bright spots in a rough stretch. In three games with Cleveland, Lowe has collected four hits, and those knocks have included a double, a homer and five RBI. He has also scored a run and drawn a walk.
That early burst fits with what Lowe has done all year across the two Ohio teams. He’s hitting .269/.343/.488 with a 123 wRC+, which puts him 23 percent above league average at the plate. His production has come in more than one way, too: Lowe has 13 home runs, 42 RBI and 18 doubles, along with a 10 percent walk rate.
Cleveland had given Kyle Manzardo a real shot to lock down the job, especially after his huge 2025 season, when he hit 27 homers and posted a 113 wRC+. But Manzardo slipped this year and had become a below-average hitter by the time the Guardians sent him down.
The organization is hoping that move sparks something for Manzardo, who still has a path to becoming Cleveland’s first baseman of the future against right-handers. Lowe, meanwhile, will be a free agent when the season ends.
It’s still early, but Lowe’s start with the Guardians has been exactly the kind of middle-order punch they were looking for. He has brought the pop, the consistency and the kind of steady production Cleveland badly needed.
