Guardians fans were treated to a double dose of excitement yesterday with both a Spring Breakout and a Spring Training victory.
First up, the Guardians prospects took down the Angels prospects with a solid 4-2 win. Wuilfredo Antunez made his mark with a homer, while Dauri Fernandez impressed at the plate.
Behind the dish, Cooper Ingle showcased his skills with some slick plays and drew two walks. On the mound, the Guardians' pitching crew of Yorman Gomez, Josh Hartle, Joey Oakie, Braylon Doughty, and Magnus Ellerts delivered strong performances.
Oakie, in particular, was firing heat, clocking in at 99 mph with his fastball. Doughty had a slight hiccup, giving up two runs, but overall, the pitching was sharp.
In the major league action, the Guardians edged out the Royals 6-5. Jose Ramirez made a triumphant return, immediately launching a homer.
Kyle Manzardo also went deep, while David Fry and Gabriel Arias each contributed with doubles. Although Parker Messick had a challenging outing, he still managed to rack up four strikeouts, and Tim Herrin continued to impress on the mound.
Meanwhile, Juan Brito and Trevor Stephan were sent to Minor League camp. Brito didn’t quite make the cut this time around.
There's hope that Gabriel Arias has found his groove at the plate, which could be crucial for the team moving forward. The Guardians are set to face off against the Mariners tonight at 9:05 PM ET.
