Manzardo, who secured the starting first baseman role last season, is set to retain that position this year. With consistent playing time on the horizon, he's emerging as a breakout candidate, catching the attention of fantasy baseball enthusiasts.
Last season, Manzardo showed flashes of brilliance, notching nearly 30 home runs despite a lower batting average and limited counting stats. He became a fixture in the lineup, starting seven of the Guardians' final 10 games against left-handed pitchers, including a critical playoff matchup.
In his first full MLB season, Manzardo burst out of the gate with eight home runs and 19 RBIs by May. He continued his power surge with 14 more homers from July through the season's end, finishing with 27 home runs and 70 RBIs over 142 games.
If he can snag a few more at-bats and refine his approach, a 30 to 35 home run season is certainly within reach. That kind of power would be a game-changer for the Guardians’ offense.
Following the release of Carlos Santana in late August, Manzardo ended 2025 as the primary first baseman. However, with Rhys Hoskins joining the roster this spring, there could be some sharing of duties. Given Hoskins' recent injury history, the Guardians might lean towards using him as a designated hitter, leaving Manzardo to shine at first base.
Additionally, CJ Kayfus, who debuted last season and was expected to take on the DH role, may start the season in the minors due to a crowded outfield situation.
