Guardians Schedule Change Created An Unusual MLB Playoff Ripple

Deck: MLB reshuffles playoff schedules, pushing back Dodgers-Brewers NLCS Game 4 to accommodate weather-impacted Guardians-Rays ALCS clash.

Major League Baseball has pushed back Game 4 of the NLCS between the Dodgers and Brewers by an hour, adjusting first pitch to 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT at Dodger Stadium after an earlier change to the ALCS schedule.

The tweak comes after MLB moved Game 3 of the American League Championship Series between the Guardians and Rays from 6 p.m. ET to 1 p.m.

ET because of “Thursday night's poor forecast.” MLB announced the NLCS adjustment on its social media channels, tying the change directly to that earlier weather-related shift in Cleveland.

“Thursday’s NLCS Game 4 between the Brewers and Dodgers has been moved up one hour to 8 pm ET/5 pm PT,” the MLB account wrote on X, formerly Twitter. “The change is a result of today’s earlier modification to the start time of ALCS Game 3 in Cleveland from 6 pm ET to 1 pm ET due to Thursday night’s poor forecast.”

The Guardians also addressed the change in their own announcement, laying out the new start time, gate opening time and ticket plan for the game at Progressive Field.

“The Cleveland Guardians and MLB announced tomorrow's ALCS Game 3 against the Tampa Bay Rays has been moved to a 1:00 p.m. ET first pitch due to incoming inclement weather expected on Thursday, October 15.

Gates to Progressive Field will now open at 11:00 a.m. ET,” the team wrote.

“Fans holding tickets to the game can use the exact same ticket to enter the 1:00 p.m. ET game,” the team's statement continued. “All parking passes for tomorrow's game will be automatically moved to the new scheduled start time.”

With the Dodgers and Brewers still in the middle of their NLCS battle and Game 3 set for Wednesday, the ripple effect from Cleveland leaves Game 4 a little later than planned. How much, if anything, these schedule changes affect either series still has to play out.

Guardians' Most Painful Trade Looks Even Worse After New Report

The 2021 swap that sent Junior Caminero from Cleveland to Tampa Bay has long lingered as one of the organizations toughest second guesses, and fresh reporting only adds another layer to the regret. The Guardians moved the then-rising prospect for pitcher Tobias Myers, a deal made with the hope of solving a pitching need while parting with a young hitter who was still far from the majors.

Now the sting is not just what Cleveland gave up, but how close the Rays came to asking for something else from the system before settling on Caminero. Xzavion Curry was among the minor leaguers Tampa Bay initially sought, and the fact that Caminero has developed into a top prospect while Myers and Curry have had quieter big league careers makes the trade look even harder to defend in hindsight. Gavin Williams Is Giving Guardians Fans Another Reason To Believe

Gavin Williams has already done his share to fuel Clevelands October run, and now he is looking to add something else to the mix as the Guardians head into the next round. The young starting pitcher said he wants to be a more vocal leader as the club prepares for Game 3 of the American League Championship Series, a sign of how quickly he has grown from power arm to one of the voices in the room.

Williams backed up that confidence with his latest outing, throwing 5.2 scoreless innings with 12 strikeouts in the series-clinching win over the Chicago White Sox. Cleveland now turns to a Game 3 matchup with the Tampa Bay Rays, set for 1 PM ET Thursday after a weather-related delay from the original 6 PM start, and the Guardians will be hoping their emerging starter brings the same edge both on the mound and in the clubhouse. Guardians Return Home With Their Biggest ALCS Opportunity Yet

The American League Championship Series now shifts to Progressive Field with the Guardians and Rays tied 1-1 after a split of the first two games. For Cleveland, the move home brings a chance to turn a balanced matchup into a real edge, with three straight games in front of their own fans and the opportunity to put pressure back on Tampa Bay.

Gavin Williams is lined up to start the next game for Cleveland, adding another layer of intrigue as the Guardians try to take control on familiar turf. Winning at least two of the three in Cleveland would give them a significant advantage in the series, and the coming stretch could end up shaping the direction of their October run. [Read more 🡒]
