Guardians Manager Gets Honest After Mariners Split

Guardians Manager Reflects on Promising Performances in Season-Opening Clash with Mariners, Setting the Stage for a Tough Road Ahead.

The Cleveland Guardians kicked off their season with a challenging four-game series against the Seattle Mariners, a team fresh off an ALCS appearance and bolstered by offseason improvements. For the young Guardians squad, this was an early test of their mettle, and they showed they could hold their own against a team with serious World Series ambitions.

The series ended in a split, with Cleveland taking the first and third games, while Seattle claimed the second and fourth. After Sunday's loss, Guardians manager Stephen Vogt reflected on the series.

"Obviously, we would love to have won the series, but we walk away from it with a split to start the year," Vogt said. "We feel pretty good.

We're playing good baseball. We had a couple of missed plays today, but outside of that, I feel like we're playing really good baseball these first four games.

We just got to keep it rolling."

Despite not securing the series win, there were plenty of positives for the Guardians. Chase DeLauter, the rookie sensation, delivered a pair of standout performances.

On the mound, Peyton Pallette showed promise, and Gavin Williams battled through some tough situations. The offense also stepped up to support Cade Smith in an extra-innings victory.

Aside from the series finale, Cleveland played three closely contested games against a formidable Mariners team. Vogt expressed pride in his team's efforts, saying, "While you want to win three out of four here, for sure, walking away with a split, I'm really proud of the way our guys have come out of the shoot."

Looking ahead, the Guardians continue their challenging road trip with a three-game series against the two-time reigning World Series champion Los Angeles Dodgers. It's another big test, but if the Guardians can build on their early performances, they might just surprise a few more teams along the way.
