The Guardians head into September with the kind of margin that keeps every inning feeling urgent: a half-game edge for the American League’s third and final Wild Card spot, and still three games back of the Chicago White Sox in the AL Central. That leaves the door cracked open for a division title, but only just.
Cleveland’s path to this point has been a roller coaster. The month of August began with a 5-11 stretch, then turned sharply in the right direction as the Guardians won eight of their last 10 games since August 20.
They’re trending up at exactly the right moment, but the standings leave no room to drift. The Baltimore Orioles, the Texas Rangers and other AL clubs are right there waiting if Cleveland stumbles.
With a new month and a new series on deck, the Guardians leaned into the moment by dropping a hype video to set the tone. The team is back home to face the Toronto Blue Jays, with first pitch set for 6:40 pm ET.

The video puts Jose Ramirez front and center, and for good reason. He snapped out of a power drought in Sunday’s win by hitting his first home run since June, a sign he may be turning the corner at last. Steven Kwan, who has been scorching, also gets plenty of shine, along with newcomer Jo Adell, starters Parker Messick and Gavin Williams, and other key pieces.
That’s the part that should make the rest of the league pay attention. Ramirez looks closer to his usual self, and when that version shows up, Cleveland gets a different kind of threat. Kwan has been on a roll, and Adell has brought some needed punch against left-handers plus a clutch bat with runners in scoring position.
On the mound, the Guardians have the kind of staff that can carry them through a tight stretch. Messick and Williams are leading the rotation, with Tanner Bibee, Joey Cantillo and Foster Griffin also pitching well. The bullpen has held up too, giving manager Stephen Vogt, a two-time AL Manager of the Year, plenty to work with.
The formula is there. Cleveland’s offense has been at its best in a while, the pitching staff is strong, and September gives them a chance to make noise.
