Cleveland's Roster Shakeup Tells You Everything

The Cleveland Browns overhaul their practice squad, cutting four players and signing three new prospects, in response to their defeat against the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The Browns spent Tuesday reshaping the back end of their roster after the 27-6 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers in the rubber match on the road.

Cleveland waived or released four players from its practice squad: WR Bub Means, P Wes Pahl, OG Vershon Lee, and OT Andrew Coker.

To replace them, the Browns added three more practice-squad players in WR Xavier Guillory, OG Austin Blaske, and OT Xavier Truss. That leaves one opening on the practice squad, and Estime will not be the one to take it after being claimed by Cleveland’s Week 9 opponent, the New Orleans Saints.

Guillory, who is 6-foot-2 and 210 pounds, entered the league as an undrafted free agent in 2025 out of Arizona State. He signed with the Baltimore Ravens and spent time on their practice squad last year and this season before being waived on October 13. Guillory has a 4.58 time and has yet to appear on a main roster.

Blaske, listed at 6-foot-5 and 310 pounds, played at North Carolina and went undrafted this year. He signed with the Los Angeles Rams, was a last-day cut, and then landed on their practice squad.

Truss, a 6-foot-7, 320-pound Georgia product, was part of two National Championship teams and also went undrafted in 2025. He has spent time with the Denver Broncos, New Orleans Saints, the Browns, and the Philadelphia Eagles.

Truss has been on practice squads and appeared in seven NFL games with the Saints. Philadelphia waived him on October 27.

He also played for Cleveland head coach Todd Monken at Georgia.

Chase DeLauter Just Made Clevelands Next Decision A Lot Harder

Chase DeLauters strong season has only sharpened the conversation around what comes next for the Guardians, and it is not a simple one. The outfielder was a finalist for the Louisville Silver Slugger award, a sign that his bat has already put him in rare company as Cleveland continues weighing how to build around its young core.

The Guardians have long shown a willingness to lock up promising players early, and DeLauter fits the kind of profile that can push that thinking into overdrive. He managed to stay productive across 133 games last season despite the injury concerns that have followed him, and that combination of upside and durability questions is exactly what makes a long-term deal feel both logical and complicated at the same time. Foster Griffin's Next Deal Could Sting Guardians Fans Fast

Foster Griffins time in Cleveland was brief, but it came with real impact. Acquired at the trade deadline, he helped the Guardians push through the stretch run, then played a part in a division title and an ALCS trip that kept the season alive deep into October.

Now the concern for Guardians fans is that the next chapter could come quickly and carry a hefty price tag. Bleacher Reports Tim Kelly projected Griffin to land a three-year, $56 million deal with the Padres, a team facing multiple rotation openings in free agency, and his 2026 season overall gives clubs plenty to weigh after a 15-6 record, a 3.60 ERA and an All-Star nod, even if his form dipped after arriving in Cleveland. Austin Hedges Just Gave Guardians Fans One More Reason To Worry

Austin Hedges may be a free agent now, but the Guardians still seem to view him as much more than a backup catcher and glove-first presence. On MLB Networks Intentional Talk, manager Stephen Vogt singled out Hedges for the energy, personality and leadership he brings, the kind of traits that can matter just as much in a clubhouse as anything he does behind the plate.

For Cleveland fans, that praise is the sort of thing that can cut both ways. It reinforces how valued Hedges was during the 2026 season, when his defense and influence carried real weight inside the room, but it also serves as a reminder that a player with that kind of impact is now on the open market. Vogt even suggested those qualities could point to future managerial success, which only adds to the sense that Hedges next move could matter well beyond one roster spot. [Read more 🡒]
