Chase DeLauter Impresses Cleveland Guardians in Spring Training Debut

Chase DeLauter impresses early in spring training, showcasing potential to secure a key role with the Cleveland Guardians.

Chase DeLauter, one of the Cleveland Guardians' most promising prospects in recent years, is gearing up for a potential MLB debut on Opening Day. With his offensive prowess, DeLauter is poised to be a key piece in the Guardians' quest to return to the playoffs.

Last year, DeLauter got a taste of the big leagues during the AL Wild Card series. Now, he's aiming to secure a permanent spot on the roster. His spring training performance is off to a promising start with two singles in his first two at-bats.

"Chase DeLauter’s feel for the barrel is crazy," noted Aram Leighton on X. "Even when you fool him, he can get to it with enough strength to sneak it into the outfield."

DeLauter wasted no time making an impact in the Guardians' lineup. In a split-squad game against the Milwaukee Brewers, he started strong with a base hit in his first at-bat and followed it up with another in his second.

Facing Brewers' pitcher Garrett Stallings, DeLauter showcased his impressive bat control. He reached for a low changeup and turned it into a hit, demonstrating his adaptability at the plate.

After a fielder’s choice, DeLauter wrapped up his day 2-for-3 before being substituted by Jaison Chourio. Starting in center field, his role is crucial as the Guardians evaluate their outfield setup.

In another split-squad game against the Cincinnati Reds, Steven Kwan took his usual spot in left field. There's potential for Kwan, a four-time Gold Glove winner, to shift to center field, opening left field for DeLauter. This move could ease DeLauter's transition into a full-time major leaguer.

Manager Stephen Vogt is exploring various outfield combinations during spring training, utilizing DeLauter, George Valera, Johnathan Rodriguez, Angel Martinez, and Nolan Jones to find the best mix of offense and defense.

Top prospect Travis Bazzana also made his spring debut against the Brewers, going 0-for-2 with a walk before being replaced by Dayan Frias. As the Guardians continue to assess their roster, DeLauter’s performance is one to watch closely.
