CC Sabathia’s baseball legacy just picked up another chapter, and this one comes with a familiar uniform.
The Hall of Fame left-hander announced this week that his son, Carsten, has signed with the Brewers, a personal milestone Sabathia celebrated on social media with a simple message: “Best birthday ever. My son Carsten is officially a Brewer.”

For Sabathia, the news links back to a franchise that already holds a meaningful place in his career. Milwaukee was the stop where a midseason trade in 2008 turned into one of the most electric stretches of his life on the mound. He delivered a 1.65 ERA across 17 starts and helped push the Brewers into the postseason for the first time in 26 years.
That run remains one of the defining memories of Sabathia’s career, which began with Cleveland after he was drafted 20th overall out of Vallejo High School in the 1998 draft. He spent eight seasons with the organization, won the American League Cy Young Award in 2007, and later moved on to Milwaukee and then the Yankees, where he added a World Series title and an ALCS MVP award in 2009.
Sabathia’s career ended with a Hall of Fame induction in 2025, when he was named on 342 of 394 BBWAA ballots. Over 19 seasons, he compiled 251 wins, 3,093 strikeouts and a 62.3 career WAR.
Now, the family name is headed into a new phase. Carsten will start his professional journey with Milwaukee, while the Sabathia legacy remains firmly rooted in Cleveland, where CC broke in during 2001, won AL Rookie of the Year and became one of the most dependable arms in franchise history.
