Bibee Stuns as Guardians Starter for Season Opener Against Mariners

Bibee is set for his much-anticipated Opening Day debut with the Guardians, aiming to capitalize on a fresh start after last year's unexpected setback.

After a year-long wait due to an untimely bout of food poisoning, Bibee is ready to take center stage as the Guardians' Opening Day starter. Set to face off against Logan Gilbert and the Mariners, Bibee's return to the mound for the season opener at T-Mobile Park is a moment of redemption and excitement.

Reflecting on the opportunity, Bibee shared, “It’s definitely really cool. Thoughts like, ‘Was it never meant to be?’

crossed my mind, but getting this second chance feels like a vote of confidence. It’s a great opportunity to lead us on Opening Night.”

Last year, Bibee was poised to make his mark after a standout 2024 season. However, fate had other plans, and he was sidelined just hours before his debut against the Royals. Ben Lively stepped up, delivering a solid performance in a 7-4 victory for Cleveland, while Bibee supported his teammate despite his own disappointment.

Fast forward to this year, and Bibee is embracing a fresh start. His 2025 season was a mixed bag-tying a career high in starts and setting a new personal best in innings pitched, but also recording career-highs in ERA, FIP, and WHIP. Reflecting on the past season, Bibee admitted to feeling the weight of expectations after signing a five-year extension, leading to what he described as “analysis paralysis” at times.

By September, though, Bibee found his groove, posting a stellar 1.30 ERA over four starts and helping secure a playoff victory against the Tigers. This strong finish bolstered his offseason confidence, providing clarity and direction for the upcoming year.

Heading into 2026, Bibee feels better than ever about his delivery and pitch arsenal. With the Guardians relying on him to anchor their rotation, his readiness is crucial. Throughout Cactus League play, Bibee has stayed on track for Opening Day, with Gavin Williams set to follow in the second game.

As the Guardians finalize their rotation, options like Slade Cecconi, Joey Cantillo, Logan Allen, and Parker Messick are in the mix. Cecconi and Cantillo have been active in Minor League games, while Messick and Allen continue to showcase their skills.

With the season opener approaching, Bibee is eager to lead the Guardians into a new chapter, ready to add another milestone to his career.
