Steph Curry didn’t have much patience for the LeBron James questions Thursday, and he made that clear in a packed media room at the Edgewood Tahoe Resort during the American Century Championship.
The scene got awkward fast after Mardy Fish opened the press conference by saying nobody on the stage wanted to play with LeBron. That didn’t stop reporters from circling back to the Warriors’ ongoing interest in James, and Curry wound up fielding a steady stream of questions about the “King” while sitting alongside Fish and Joe Pavelski, the last three winners of the event.
One reporter tried to connect Curry directly to the day’s bigger rumor by asking whether he had reached out to LeBron after James met with Draymond Green.
“Stay out of my personal business,” Curry said, drawing a big laugh from the room.
The exchange landed with a smile, but the frustration was obvious. Curry seemed especially relieved when the questions shifted away from LeBron and toward the golf tournament itself.
“In the golf tournament? Thank you for that.
Absolutely,” Curry said. “If he can get a jet out here for tomorrow, that would be awesome.”
The LeBron chatter has only grown louder because of what’s floating around the rumor mill. Caroline’s Cupcakes, the outlet that famously broke the first LeBron return story in 2014, reported that Draymond is expected to join LeBron in Cleveland for his second homecoming, with Bronny James also set to be there.
That backdrop made Curry’s comments about Golden State’s 2025-26 roster even more notable. Asked whether he was comfortable with running it back, Curry pointed to the uncertainty around free agency and the state of the team.
“I mean, it's TBD because that's what free agency is about. LeBron is in a situation where the league is waiting.
But other than that, it's great to get KP back; it's great to get Al back. We're in a unique situation because Jimmy is hurt and Moses is hurt, and they're going to miss a good amount of the season.
You've got to try to hold the fort down as much as you can until those guys get back, because we do have an idea of who we could be with them. But I know Mike, Steve, Joe, they're doing the best they can to make the right decisions with what's available,” Curry said.
Notably, there was no mention of Draymond, who is a free agent.
Curry and LeBron have spent years as rivals and teammates in different forms, from those 2015-2018 NBA Finals battles to winning Olympic gold together with Team USA. Whatever happens next, the relationship is clearly intact. But Thursday’s press conference showed just how tired Curry is of being asked to play middleman in the latest round of LeBron speculation.
