LeBron James Stuns Fans Diving for Loose Ball in Crunch Time

JJ Redick reflects on LeBron James' critical hustle play and evolving role as the Lakers rally in a thrilling overtime win against the Nuggets.

In a thrilling overtime showdown, the Los Angeles Lakers pulled off an impressive comeback against the Denver Nuggets, thanks to standout performances from Austin Reaves and Luka Doncic. Reaves was clutch, scoring nine of the Lakers' final 20 points in regulation, including a savvy play where he intentionally missed a free throw, grabbed the rebound, and scored to push the game into overtime. Meanwhile, Doncic was equally pivotal, scoring six consecutive points late in the fourth and nailing the game-winning jumper as the clock ticked down in overtime.

This victory was far from a solo effort. LeBron James, while not posting his usual eye-popping numbers, made critical contributions.

With 17 points, six rebounds, five assists, and two steals, LeBron's hustle play in the final minute was a game-changer. Diving for a defensive rebound, he forced a jump ball with Jamal Murray, which, although he lost, set the stage for Marcus Smart's crucial steal and fast-break layup that gave the Lakers the lead.

After the Lakers secured their 127-125 win, coach JJ Redick humorously noted the rarity of seeing LeBron dive for a loose ball. "I told him after the game - in all the years I've watched you, I never saw you make a full-out extension dive like that," Redick said. LeBron acknowledged it was a first, adding, "That's a winning play."

LeBron’s willingness to adapt is evident this season. Embracing a new role as the Lakers' third scoring option, he's averaging 21.3 points on 50.5% shooting, along with 5.7 rebounds and seven assists per game.

While he hasn't hit the 30-point mark since January, and his field-goal attempts are at a career low, LeBron's strategic shift is paying dividends. With Reaves and Doncic stepping up, James is finding his groove in this evolved role, proving that sometimes less is more when it comes to team success.
