Larry Nance Jrs Cleveland Return Ended With A Brutal Twist

Larry Nance Jr. shakes up the Eastern Conference dynamics by joining the Indiana Pacers after an underwhelming stint with the Cavaliers.

The Cavs are set to lose another familiar face from their conference finals run, with veteran forward Larry Nance Jr. agreeing to a one-year, $4 million deal with the Indiana Pacers, sources told cleveland.com.

For Cleveland, the move closes the book on a second stint that was supposed to bring a little homegrown stability. Nance, an Akron native and Revere High School standout, returned to the Cavaliers last offseason on a one-year contract and was expected to provide depth and a steady voice in the locker room. Instead, he slipped down the rotation and appeared in just 35 games, posting career lows across the board.

There was recent buzz about Nance as a possible low-cost target for the team that eventually lands LeBron James in free agency, but sources say a return to Cleveland was never considered a realistic outcome.

His departure makes him the third member of Cleveland’s expensive roster to leave this offseason. Starting small forward Dean Wade signed a four-year deal with the Philadelphia 76ers, and swingman Keon Ellis joined the Brooklyn Nets.

Nance’s exit comes after a season in which the Cavs went 52-30, reached the conference finals for the first time since 2018 and for the first time without LeBron in more than three decades, then were swept by eventual NBA champion New York.

The Pacers will be the sixth team of Nance’s 11-year NBA career. He has also played for the Cavs, Lakers, Trail Blazers, Pelicans and Hawks.

Across 581 career regular-season games, Nance has averaged 7.5 points on 53.5% shooting, 5.9 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.1 steals.

Lakers Just Closed The Book On A Former Cavs Lottery Pick

The Lakers made a routine cap-space move this week, officially renouncing the free-agent rights to a long list of familiar names as they continue clearing room for future flexibility. Among the players included in the transaction were LeBron James, Carmelo Anthony, Dwight Howard and several others, a housekeeping step confirmed by HoopsHypes Michael Scotto.

For Cleveland fans, the note tucked inside the paperwork was a reminder of how far one former lottery pick has traveled since his days with the Cavaliers. He last surfaced with Los Angeles in 2020 and was part of that bubble title run, and now his Lakers chapter has been closed in the most administrative way possible, with the timing of the move underscoring just how thoroughly the franchise is resetting its books. Cavs May Already Have Their Answer To A Costly Dean Wade Loss

Dean Wades offseason departure leaves a real gap for Cleveland, because his value was never about volume scoring so much as the little things that keep a lineup balanced. He gave the Cavaliers a rare mix of defensive versatility and enough shooting to keep the floor open, the kind of skill set that can quietly hold a rotation together when the matchups get tricky.

Jaylon Tyson is already the name to watch as the Cavs look for a way to absorb that loss, and the appeal is obvious. In limited run, he has flashed enough offensive feel and defensive activity to suggest there is something there, but the next step is straightforward: he needs more minutes to turn those hints into something dependable.
