Big changes could be on the horizon for the Los Angeles Lakers this summer. With approximately $50 million in salary cap space, the Lakers are poised for some significant moves.
There's even talk that LeBron James might part ways with the team. Additionally, the Lakers are expected to make key hires for their front office, according to reports.
The first shift has already taken place. Tim Harris, the president of business operations, is set to leave after this season.
Stepping in is Lon Rosen, a familiar face from the Lakers' past, who is currently with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Rosen's history with the Lakers dates back to the 1980s, and he served as Magic Johnson's agent before joining the Dodgers.
Rosen expressed his enthusiasm for his new role with the Lakers, emphasizing the evolving nature of the sports business.
“I’m beyond grateful to Jeanie [Buss] and Mark [Walter] for trusting me with this incredible opportunity,” Rosen stated. “As everyone knows, the economics of the sports business are constantly changing - and they will continue to do so.
But, at root, my job is a simple one: figuring out how to do right by our employees and our partners while ensuring that the Lakers continue to provide an unparalleled experience for our fans in Los Angeles and around the world. I look forward to working alongside Jeanie, Rob [Pelinka] and the whole front-office team to make that happen.”
Rosen's hiring is seen as a strategic move, aligning the Lakers with the successful model of the Dodgers. Mark Walter, who has led the Dodgers to multiple World Series titles, recently acquired a majority share of the Lakers. Under his leadership, the Dodgers have become a benchmark for success in Major League Baseball, and it seems the Lakers are looking to replicate that winning formula.
