There’s still no end date on James Harden’s beard - at least not while he’s still lacing up his sneakers.
The Cleveland Cavaliers star said Thursday that the iconic look is staying put for the rest of his playing days. If he ever decides to move on from it, that change will have to wait until retirement.
“I'm definitely gonna keep it while I'm playing basketball. Honestly, like once I'm away from the cameras all the time, then I can figure out if I wanna try to cut it and see what that looks like. But now, for sure, until I'm retired, I'm keeping this beard,” Harden said.
Harden is about to begin his 18th NBA season and his second with Cleveland. The 37-year-old helped push the Cavaliers to the East Finals last season, and now he’s trying to lead them back to the NBA Finals for the first time since 2018.
Even with the miles adding up, Harden remains one of the league’s most dangerous offensive weapons. His efficiency has slipped in recent seasons, but the scoring touch that made him one of the greatest scorers in NBA history is still very much there.

For now, the beard stays. So does the bigger question: can Harden and the Cavaliers make one more serious run this year?
Cleveland finished its preseason on Oct. 13 after going 1-2. The Cavs dropped their opener to the Boston Celtics on Oct. 8, beat the Orlando Magic on Oct. 11, then fell to Orlando again in the rematch on Oct. 13.
The regular season starts on the road for Cleveland, which opens against the Philadelphia 76ers on Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. ET.

Jarrett Allen Trade Buzz Puts Cleveland In A Tough Spot
Jarrett Allens name has started to surface in trade conversations around the league, and the Cavaliers have found themselves in the familiar position of listening without feeling pressure to act. Multiple NBA teams have checked in on the center, but Clevelands stance has been consistent so far: Allen is too important to move unless a deal clearly makes the roster better.
That reluctance makes sense for a team that leans on Allen as a defensive anchor and values the stability he brings alongside Evan Mobley. For now, the Cavs have turned down every inquiry, and the real question is whether any team will eventually come forward with an offer Cleveland views as worth disturbing one of its most important interior pieces. Kenny Atkinson Enters Season With One Cavaliers Problem He Must Solve
Kenny Atkinson goes into the new season with the kind of roster puzzle every coach would prefer to have, but also the kind that can turn tricky in a hurry. The Cavaliers are sorting through player roles and trying to build on last years progress, with Mario Hezonja expected to be part of the bench mix and the club looking for clearer offensive balance as it settles into its rotation.
The bigger pressure point is not just internal fit, but the standard this group is carrying into October and beyond. Cleveland is still trying to show it can push deeper in the playoffs after past postseason stalls, and the opening schedule will not make the early evaluation any easier, with several quality opponents waiting in the first 10 games. Donovan Mitchell's Place Among NBA Scorers Says A Lot About Cleveland
Donovan Mitchells standing as one of the leagues elite scorers keeps reinforcing how far Cleveland has come since he arrived. The Cavaliers have built around a player whose production has been steady in every setting, with career marks of 25.1 points per game in the regular season and 27.8 in the playoffs, and last seasons run to the Eastern Conference Finals only added to the sense that he remains the center of the franchises ambitions.
Bleacher Reports latest ranking, which slots Mitchell ninth among NBA scorers heading into the 2026-27 season, is another reminder that the Cavaliers are operating with a legitimate offensive engine. It also comes after Mitchell signed a four-year, $273 million maximum extension with Cleveland this offseason, a move that signals how strongly both sides believe the window is still open.
