The Cleveland Cavaliers are gearing up for the playoffs, aiming to hit their stride at just the right time. With Donovan Mitchell and James Harden leading the charge, this Cavs squad is shaping up to be a formidable opponent that no team will want to face in the postseason.
However, not everything has been smooth sailing. Evan Mobley, a player many expected to make a significant offensive leap, hasn't quite met those lofty expectations this season. Despite this, there's been some intriguing chatter about Mobley's potential.
Former NBA star Kendrick Perkins recently stirred the pot with a bold prediction. He suggested that Mobley could eventually be talked about in the same breath as San Antonio Spurs' standout Victor Wembanyama.
Perkins noted, “In the next two to three years, we’re going to be talking about Evan Mobley possibly how we talk about Wemby taking that leap. He has that type of upside.
It’s all in his mind, though.”
While Perkins is optimistic, there are some physical aspects where Mobley falls short compared to Wembanyama, such as height and dexterity. Yet, it's Mobley's perceived lack of aggression on offense that's often highlighted as a hurdle. This has been a point of contention, with some attributing it to the Cavs' past playoff struggles.
If Mobley can elevate his game to Wembanyama's level, the Cavaliers could very well become championship favorites. For now, they're holding steady as the fourth seed in the Eastern Conference, with high hopes for a deep playoff run.
