Donovan Mitchell has turned “LetEmKnow” into one of those little game-day rituals fans recognize instantly. The Cleveland Cavaliers guard has been posting the phrase for years, long before he arrived in Cleveland ahead of the 2022-23 season, and on Monday he explained exactly what it means to him.
Now 30, Mitchell said the message is his way of telling fans he’s on the way to the arena and that it’s time to lock in for the night.
“It’s just my way of letting the fans know, one, that I’m headed to the game. It’s time to lock in, right,” Mitchell said.
“But also it’s like just to kind of get the city, get the crowd knowing, like, ‘Alright, it’s that time. We’re approaching that time.’
Typically it’s a 7 o’clock game, so it’s right around four-ish.
“People about to get off work. You get off work, you’re ready,” Mitchell continued.
“You’re kind of in like, ‘I gotta get home to catch the Cavs game.’ And let’s people know that you’re headed into work.
Time to go out there and do your job. It’s just a way to connect with the crowd, with the city, and something that I’ve done since I was in Utah, and now I’m doing it here.”
Fans in Cleveland won’t have to wait long to see those posts again. The Cavaliers open the 2026-27 season on October 22 with a road game against the Philadelphia 76ers.
Mitchell is also coming off another big year and is looking to push the Cavaliers even further after they came up short of the Finals. The seven-time All-Star finished last season with averages of 27.9 points, 4.5 rebounds and 5.7 assists per game, while shooting 48.3% from the field and 36.4% from three across 70 games.
