In a thrilling showdown in Orlando, Desmond Bane showcased his clutch gene, nailing a crucial 3-pointer and sinking two free throws in the final 17.4 seconds to seal a 128-122 victory for the Magic over the Cleveland Cavaliers. This win marks the Magic's fifth consecutive triumph, as they continue to build momentum.
Bane was electric throughout the night, racking up 35 points. But he wasn't the only standout performer for Orlando. Paolo Banchero delivered a well-rounded game with 25 points, eight rebounds, and seven assists, while Tristan da Silva chipped in 23 points, including nine pivotal ones in the fourth quarter.
On the Cavaliers' side, James Harden was in fine form, scoring 30 points and dishing out eight assists. Donovan Mitchell added 25 points, and his late 3-pointer brought Cleveland within striking distance after trailing by 13 earlier in the fourth quarter.
However, Bane's dagger from beyond the arc, as he was falling out of bounds, was the turning point with just 17.4 seconds left on the clock. He then calmly sank two free throws to put the game out of reach.
Keon Ellis gave Cleveland a fighting chance, hitting three 3-pointers and finishing with 20 points, sparking a late comeback attempt. Evan Mobley also contributed with a double-double, tallying 18 points and 13 rebounds.
Despite the Cavaliers' efforts, they've now dropped five of their last nine games after a seven-game winning streak. The game saw Mitchell and Harden each net 16 points in the first half, but a cold spell from beyond the arc in the second quarter left them tied at 62 by halftime. Harden's early second-half 3-pointer was quickly overshadowed by Mobley's foul trouble, as he picked up his fourth just 35 seconds into the third quarter.
The Magic's blend of timely shooting and solid team play continues to make them a formidable force in the league.
