The Cleveland Charge, the G League affiliate of the Cleveland Cavaliers, have made a notable move by acquiring guard Victor Oladipo, as confirmed by the official G League transaction board. Oladipo, who was the second overall pick in the 2013 NBA Draft, previously played for the Wisconsin Herd. In this trade, the Charge sent Jacob Gilyard, Drake Jeffries, and 2026 second-round and international draft picks to Wisconsin.
Oladipo's stint with the Herd saw him averaging 14 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.8 assists per game, albeit in a limited role, clocking in at 28.7 minutes per game. His career has been marred by a series of leg and knee injuries, including a ruptured quad and a torn Achilles, leading the team to handle him with care.
The last time Oladipo graced an NBA court was during the 2023 playoffs with the Miami Heat, where he played 19 minutes. He spent the following season recovering from his Achilles injury, and his contract was traded multiple times before the Memphis Grizzlies waived him nearly two years ago. He also had a brief stint with the Guangzhou Loong Lions in the Chinese Basketball Association.
Now, Oladipo joins a Charge backcourt alongside Killian Hayes, another former top draft pick. Hayes is currently putting up impressive numbers, averaging 24.6 points and 7.7 assists per game.
The Charge have a history of turning around players' careers, sending several to the NBA in recent seasons. Oladipo aims to follow this path as he eyes a return to the NBA.
