Cavs Stun Fans With Key Injury Update Ahead Of Playoffs

In the final stretch of the season, the Cavaliers remain optimistic as they manage injuries to key players, with hopes of a swift return ahead of the playoffs.

With just 15 games left in the 2025-26 NBA season, the Cleveland Cavaliers are in a race against time to get their roster back to full strength before the playoffs. The good news? Head coach Kenny Atkinson is optimistic about the recovery timelines for his injured players.

Take Jarrett Allen, for instance. He’s been out since March 3rd with knee tendonitis, a setback after a stellar February where he averaged 22.3 points and 11.5 rebounds.

Allen’s performance was pivotal in shifting the Cavaliers’ season momentum, and Atkinson believes this is just a temporary pause. “I don’t anticipate this to be long-term,” Atkinson shared.

“He’s dealing with some pretty severe tendonitis, but it’s part of the grind. After the heavy stretch he had, it’s understandable.

We’re expecting him back soon.”

Similarly, Sam Merrill is on the injury list, missing his second straight game against the Dallas Mavericks due to a hamstring issue. Atkinson’s approach with Merrill is one of caution.

“Soft tissue injuries require care,” he noted. “We’ve talked, and the focus is on ensuring this doesn’t linger.

With the playoffs on the horizon, getting him as close to 100% is crucial.”

The Cavaliers are clearly prioritizing health as they gear up for the postseason. It’s a smart move, considering the bigger goals they have in sight. Ensuring their key players are ready to go when it matters most could make all the difference in their playoff journey.
