Mario Hezonja’s arrival in Cleveland already looked like a move worth watching. Now the chatter around him is only getting louder.
The Cavs signed Hezonja in July, and at first it caught some people off guard. That changed once his play for Real Madrid started making the rounds and then his work with Croatia in the FIBA Qualifiers showed up in real time. Suddenly, it was obvious this was more than a routine addition.

Hezonja has also already started making himself at home in Cleveland. He was at the Browns game on Sunday, watching them beat the Panthers 23-19, and he reacted with real excitement to a post about a custom Cavs jersey being ordered with his name on it. The vibe is pretty simple: he seems happy to be here.
This isn’t his first NBA stop, either. He previously played in New York, Portland, and Orlando.
But this time, Cleveland is the destination. His contract doesn’t fully guarantee until November 15th, but the expectation is that he’ll be around for the full season.
At 31, Hezonja looks built for this stage of his career: strong, hard to move, and still a threat as a three-point shooter and slasher. The signing may have flown under the radar outside the organization, but all signs point to one of Cleveland’s newest pieces making some noise.
The next chance to hear directly from him comes at Media Day on Monday. And at this point, the Cavs seem convinced he’s going to open some eyes.
