Steph Curry may be open to sharing a tee box with LeBron James, but the hardwood sounds like a different story.
With the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors among the teams trying to sell James on free agency, Curry was asked Wednesday afternoon about the idea of teaming up with him. His answer quickly steered away from basketball. “I’d say more, so I’m interested to just golf with LeBron.”
Curry did add that he would “love to play together,” though the overall vibe suggested he was far more intrigued by a round of golf than by a partnership on the court.
That tracks with how James has spent a chunk of his summer back in Akron. He’s been posting golf videos whenever he gets the chance, including Wednesday afternoon.
Whether James would be equally eager to link up with Curry in Golden State is a separate question. ESPN’s Shams Charania has trimmed James’s list of potential landing spots to three teams: the Cavaliers, Miami Heat, and Philadelphia 76ers. The Warriors were not among those three, though Charania said they could re-enter the picture if they managed to trade for Anthony Davis from the Washington Wizards.
There’s also the matter of James and Draymond Green. It’s been reported that the two, with Green currently a free agent, are set to meet up this weekend. What that meeting will be about remains unclear.
For now, James’s next move is still up in the air. Signs point toward a return to Cleveland, and that still looks like the most likely outcome. But other possibilities are still alive, including Golden State - even if Curry seems more excited about golf with James than basketball alongside him.
