The Browns’ 2025 draft class has drawn plenty of praise, and for good reason. Mason Graham, Quinshon Judkins and Carson Schwesinger all gave Cleveland encouraging early returns, while Shedeur Sanders provided more than expected for a fifth-round pick. But there’s another name in the mix that deserves a bigger spotlight: Harold Fannin Jr.
Fannin’s rookie season was the kind of debut that makes people take notice. The Bowling Green tight end finished with 72 catches for 731 yards and six touchdowns, while posting a 67.9 Pro Football Focus grade.
His work as a receiver showed up immediately at the pro level, reflected in a 76.4 receiving grade. The blocking still has room to grow, but the overall picture is obvious - there’s a lot more here than a promising rookie line.
That’s part of why Liam Coen made sure to bring him up before the Browns’ Week 1 meeting with the Jacksonville Jaguars. Coen didn’t hide how much he likes Fannin, and he pointed to a game that showed just how much the tight end can do.
"I’m a huge fan of [Harold Fannin Jr.]. I loved him coming out of Bowling Green.
I thought he was super underrated last year [after] watching the tape. I’m watching him block - I think it was Micah Parsons on a duo and he was in-line and he held his own and had a stalemate there and it was a good run, then you see him flexed out running wheel routes and option routes, and then he goes all the way out to be the single receiver and he’s running daggers and like 20-yard ins."
Coen also drew a line between Fannin and what Todd Monken likes to do with tight ends.
"I think it’s a good fit for [Browns head coach Todd Monken] and for what he likes to do, and you saw what he did with [Isaiah Likely] in Baltimore as well. So, I gotta believe there’s going to be some of those parts of Fannin’s game that are going to be able to translate to what Monk likes to do with some of those tight ends."
That comparison matters because Monken has shown a real willingness to lean on tight ends. The Ravens finished 18th in tight end receiving yardage last season, but that came with Lamar Jackson missing time in 2025 and the passing game taking a hit. In 2024, Baltimore was fourth in the league, and it had ranked eighth in 2023.
The usage tells the same story. Even when Monken wasn’t funneling targets directly to a tight end, he was still putting them on the field in volume. Baltimore used 12-personnel at the third-highest rate in the league last season.
For Browns fans, that’s the kind of setup that should have Fannin circled. The attention has naturally gone to rookies KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston, but Fannin is only 22 and has already shown he can handle a meaningful role. If the young pass catchers around him also deliver, Cleveland could be building something real through the air.
