Cleveland Browns Linked to Veteran Linebacker Amid Roster Changes

Can the Cleveland Browns bolster their linebacker depth by signing the seasoned Logan Wilson, fresh off his release from the Dallas Cowboys?

The Cleveland Browns find themselves in a bit of a predicament with their linebacker corps. Once a robust unit, it's now looking somewhat sparse. Carson Schwesinger has been the standout, providing stability and earning league accolades, but the rest of the lineup is in a state of uncertainty.

As we edge closer to the free agency period on March 9, the Browns' GM Andrew Berry might have his eyes on a potential acquisition: linebacker Logan Wilson. Recently released by the Dallas Cowboys, Wilson brings six years of NFL experience to the table. Given the Browns' current needs, could Wilson be the perfect fit?

The current linebacker roster includes Easton Mascarenas-Arnold, Bookie Watson, Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, and Schwesinger. However, the future of Owusu-Koramoah remains uncertain.

Meanwhile, the free agent pool is rich with talent, featuring names like Devin Bush, Mohamoud Diabate, Winston Reid, Edefuan Ulofoshio, and Jerome Baker. Berry has the option to re-sign these players, but as of now, their status is up in the air.

Wilson, standing at 6'2" and weighing 245 pounds, could be a strategic signing for the Browns. With a five-year stint at the Cincinnati Bengals, the Browns are well-acquainted with his skills. Drafted in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft from Wyoming, Wilson made a name for himself with impressive tackle stats in college: 94, 119, 103, and 105 tackles over four years.

At 29, Wilson is known for his tackling prowess, having recorded four seasons with over 100 tackles, including a standout 135-tackle season in 2023. That year, he secured a four-year, $36 million extension as his rookie contract was nearing its end.

Wilson excels in reading quarterbacks and providing solid run support, missing only 43 tackles throughout his career. He moved to the Dallas Cowboys at the trade deadline last year, but his journey there was rocky. Despite starting the 2025 season strong, he found himself benched after Week 6, leaving him puzzled by the decision.

His Pro Football Focus grades highlight his solid performance in pass defense:

  • 2025: 52.6
  • 2024: 72.3
  • 2023: 62.6
  • 2022: 76.4
  • 2021: 54.7
  • 2020: 54.7

Wilson's career stats are impressive: 83 games with 66 starts, 565 total tackles, 5.5 sacks, 19 tackles for loss, 18 QB hits, 7 forced fumbles, 3 fumble recoveries, 26 batted passes, 11 interceptions, 8 hurries, 12 knockdowns, and 27 pressures.

His contract with Dallas was set at $6.52 million with no guaranteed money. The Cowboys are undergoing a defensive overhaul, which led to Wilson's release after eight games. As the Browns consider their options, Wilson's experience and skill set could provide a much-needed boost to their linebacker room.
