The Browns have gone from surprise story to potential deadline buyer in a hurry.
After winning three of their first four games and seeing Deshaun Watson play as well as he has, Cleveland is in a spot few expected to see this season. That kind of start changes the conversation. Instead of selling, the Browns can at least think about where a move or two might sharpen the roster for the stretch run.
The biggest issue remains up front on offense. Cleveland spent plenty of time this offseason signing, trading, and drafting to remake the offensive line, but the results still haven’t matched the effort. The unit sits 28th in PFF offensive line rankings, and even if the Browns don’t want to pay a premium for another starter, more depth is still worth chasing with Watson under center.
Receiver is another area where the long-term picture is already taking shape. The Browns used two top picks on KC Concepcion and Denzel Boston in the 2026 NFL Draft, which makes the idea of adding another big-name wideout less appealing.
Cleveland appears to have its next stars in place, and that opens the door for a move like trading Jerry Jeudy. If that happens, the Browns could then look for a veteran receiver who can help bring along the younger talent.
Linebacker is more about insurance than a full-blown overhaul. Carson Schwesinger and Quincy Williams have already shown they can form a strong tandem, and Easton Mascarenas-Arnold has shown enough to hold his own.
The concern starts after that. The depth gets thin fast, so a low-cost addition there would make sense.
The defensive line also enters the conversation because of the recent Mason Graham injury. Even without him, the Browns managed to sack Aaron Rodgers five times against the Steelers, but more help would still be welcome. This doesn’t have to be a splash move; someone who can lighten the load on Jared Verse would fit the bill.
At the top of the list, though, is cornerback. That’s the clearest area of need for Cleveland.
Denzel Ward is there, and Tyson Campbell has been battling injury, but the Browns have leaned heavily on Myles Harden. Against the Steelers in Week 4, Pittsburgh made it a point to attack him, even at times matching him up with DK Metcalf.
Harden was targeted seven times, and the Steelers turned that into 4 catches for 117 yards and a touchdown.
If Cleveland is going to chase a major upgrade anywhere, cornerback looks like the place.

Browns Defense Found Something That Is Fueling This Winning Streak
The Browns defense did not look like a unit ready to carry a winning streak out of Week 1, but it has settled in quickly since then. Over the last three games, Cleveland has started to play faster and with more confidence, and the change has been tied to defensive coordinator Jim Rutenbergs willingness to adjust the plan from week to week instead of sticking with one approach.
Rutenberg said recently that the staff is leaning into opponent tendencies and making sure the scheme fits the players strengths, which has helped the defense find a better rhythm. For a team riding a three-game surge, the bigger question now is whether that flexibility can keep paying off as the schedule brings a different kind of challenge each week. [Read more 🡒]
Browns Have One Jets Memory They Need To Leave Behind
The Browns head into Week 5 with plenty going their way, sitting at 3-1 and riding a three-game winning streak as they get ready to see the Jets again. For Cleveland, this is more than just another AFC meeting. It is also a reminder of how quickly a game against New York can tilt when special teams go sideways, and why the units sharper play this season has become part of the teams early success.
Clevelands recent progress in that phase has helped steady things around a roster trying to stack wins early in the year, and the Browns will want that reliability to hold up in New York. The Jets arrive at 1-3, but the Browns know the matchup does not need much help to turn tense, so keeping the hidden-yardage battle under control could be the difference between extending the run and reopening an old wound. Browns Suddenly Have A Defensive Line Problem Heading Into Jets Game
The Browns defensive front took a hit this week as they prepared for a matchup with the Jets, with Mason Graham and Mike Hall Jr. both unavailable after leaving the previous game with injuries. Both linemen missed recent practices, which made their status hard to miss as the week wore on, and their absence leaves Cleveland thinner in an area that usually helps set the tone for the defense.
With Graham and Hall Jr. sidelined, the Browns will need others to carry more of the load up front. Collins, Huntington and Williams are among the players expected to see expanded roles, giving Cleveland a different look in the trenches as it tries to steady a line that suddenly has more questions than it did just a few days ago.
