Browns Sign Former Top Draft Pick From Rival AFC Team

The Browns bolster their offensive line depth with a once-promising draft pick aiming to revive his career in Cleveland.

The Cleveland Browns are adding depth and versatility to their offensive line, officially signing Kendrick Green off the Buffalo Bills’ practice squad and onto their active roster.

Green, a 2021 third-round pick by the Pittsburgh Steelers, has seen his fair share of movement across the AFC. Coming out of Illinois, he was known for his athleticism and ability to play both center and guard-traits that made him an appealing option for Pittsburgh early on.

He started 15 games at center during his rookie season, showcasing flashes of potential in a demanding role. But in Year 2, the Steelers shifted him to guard, where he lost out on the starting job to Kevin Dotson and saw limited action as a rotational lineman.

In 2023, Green got a fresh start with the Houston Texans. He opened the season as their starting left guard, holding down the job for three games before a meniscus tear in Week 4 landed him on injured reserve, cutting his season short just as he was beginning to re-establish himself.

This past offseason, the Bills brought him in on a one-year deal, but he didn’t make the final 53-man roster after training camp. Still, Buffalo kept him close, signing him to the practice squad in August.

Now, Cleveland is giving Green another shot at meaningful snaps-and maybe more. With both Joel Bitonio and Wyatt Teller set to hit free agency in 2026, the Browns are clearly looking ahead.

Green offers a cost-effective, low-risk option who already has starting experience and positional flexibility. He’s still just a few years removed from being a top-100 draft pick, and if he can stay healthy, he could play a valuable role either as a depth piece or a potential starter down the line.

For a Browns team that has leaned heavily on its offensive line identity, especially in the run game, this move isn’t just about plugging a hole-it’s about planning for the future. Green’s journey through Pittsburgh, Houston, and Buffalo hasn’t been linear, but Cleveland might be the right situation for him to finally find his footing.
