The Cleveland Browns are making bold moves this offseason to address their persistent offensive challenges. With the hiring of Todd Monken to replace Kevin Stefanski and key additions to the offensive line, GM Andrew Berry is crafting a clear vision for the team's future in 2026.
It's no shocker that many experts are forecasting the Browns will use their two first-round picks to bolster the offense. While prospects like Caleb Downs and Sonny Styles are tempting, the Browns have pressing needs at wide receiver and offensive tackle.
In the latest mock draft from NFL Draft expert Todd McShay, the Browns are projected to snag Ohio State's star wide receiver Carnell Tate with the No. 6 pick. This choice has gained traction, and for good reason. Following that, McShay predicts the Browns will select Utah's Caleb Lomu as their new left tackle with the No. 24 pick.
This scenario paints an almost ideal picture for the Browns. Throughout the pre-draft discussions, names like Spencer Fano, Francis Mauigoa, and Monroe Freeling were in the mix.
Mauigoa's stock soared after the NFL Scouting Combine, while concerns about Fano's arm length caused a dip. Freeling, though athletically gifted, is still developing.
With Mauigoa projected to go to Arizona at No. 3 in McShay's mock, the Browns are poised to make a safe bet by picking the top pass-catcher available. Carnell Tate might not have blazing speed, but his elite hands, precise route-running, and local Buckeye roots make him an obvious choice as the team's No. 1 wide receiver.
As the draft unfolds, McShay has Fano heading to the Baltimore Ravens at No. 14 and Freeling to the Detroit Lions at No. 17.
This leaves the door wide open for the Browns to secure the Utes' standout left tackle at No. 24.
Lomu may not have generated as much buzz as his teammate Fano, but his track record speaks volumes. Last season, he didn't allow a single sack across 383 pass-blocking snaps and surrendered only eight pressures.
His impressive 82.1 PFF pass-blocking grade and minimal penalties highlight his discipline and reliability.
The Browns still have several pieces to fit together, especially concerning their quarterback strategy. Todd Monken might require more than a single season to reshape the franchise and instill a winning culture in Cleveland.
However, a strong rookie class could accelerate the Browns' progress, making this draft scenario a dream come true for the team.
