The Browns are back home Sunday, and for the first time in almost two years, Deshaun Watson will run out in front of Cleveland fans in a regular-season game. The opponent is Carolina, a team that has quietly turned into one of the league’s more explosive offenses through two weeks.
Cleveland enters Week 3 at 1-1 after its win over Tampa Bay, a game in which Watson, dare we say, looked like a competent NFL quarterback. The Panthers are also 1-1, but they arrive in downtown Cleveland averaging 35.5 points per game behind Bryce Young, who has thrown three touchdown passes in each of the first two games.
That contrast makes this one easy to frame: the Browns are trying to steady an offense that has not scored 30 points since Week 7 of last season, while Carolina has been piling up big plays and putting up points in bunches.

Kickoff is set for 1 p.m., and the game will air on FOX. The Browns’ radio call will be on 850 ESPN Cleveland, 92.3 The Fan WKRK, 98.5 WNCX, and 1300 AM La Mega (Español). Andrew Siciliano, Nathan Zegura, and Je’Rod Cherry will be on the broadcast.
The Browns and Panthers have split the few meetings they’ve had over the years, but Cleveland has taken the last two in Cleveland. The Browns won the most recent matchup, 26-24, in Week 1 of the 2022 season.
Carolina won the first meeting, 31-17, on November 21, 1999. The Panthers still hold the overall edge in the series, 4-3.
Cleveland will wear brown uniforms with orange pants.
The injury list is worth watching on both sides. The Browns have offensive guard Teven Jenkins out with a back issue, while cornerback Tyson Campbell (ankle/hip) and safety Grant Delpit (shoulder) are questionable. Carolina will be without linebacker Claudin Cherelus (shoulder), safety Nick Scott (ribs), and linebacker Devin Lloy (calf), and the Panthers have wide receivers Jalen Coker (ankle) and Xavier Legette (knee) listed as questionable.
The numbers around this matchup tell a pretty sharp story. Cleveland is No. 31 in rushing with 131 rushing yards, while Carolina is last in rushing defense after giving up 448 rushing yards. The Browns also haven’t allowed a 300-yard passer in 47 straight games, the longest active streak in the league.
On the other side, Carolina has been thriving through the air. The Panthers are averaging 312.5 passing yards and rank second in the league in pass plays of 20 or more yards. They’ve also forced six takeaways, the most in the NFL.
There are a few individual notes worth keeping in mind, too. Cleveland wide receiver Denzel Boston is just the second player in franchise history to catch a touchdown in each of his first two games, joining Andre’ Davis (2002) and Bobby Mitchell (1958). Boston leads all NFL rookies with 154 receiving yards, while wide receiver KC Concepcion leads all rookies with 10 receptions.
Defensive tackle Mason Graham is tied for the league lead among defensive tackles with two sacks, and kicker Andre Szmyt has made 18 straight field goals dating back to last season.
One issue that has dogged Cleveland through two games: the Browns are 0-for-10 on third downs in the first half.
Sunday will also bring a franchise celebration, with Cleveland set to induct Alex Mack, Brian Brennan, and Lou Rymkus as the 2026 Class of Browns Legends.
Asked about helping Watson get ready for this home start, offensive coordinator Travis Switzer put the focus on the work behind the scenes.
“I think it’s just focusing on the process, and that’s all I’ve really seen Deshaun do since I’ve been around him. He’s focusing on his preparation and what it takes to win.
There are a lot of things and preparation that go into being able to win a football game in the NFL on Sundays. And that’s something that, from the time I’ve been around him, he’s been awesome with.
He really prepares, and I think that’s what gives him the confidence, and that’s why we’re also like, let it rip, you know, you do prepare, man, you’re ready. And like I said, he has been doing that.
And I think we saw it last week especially.”
