Browns fans looking ahead to the 2027 NFL Draft have plenty of college quarterbacks to track this fall, and the list stretches well beyond the usual blue-chip names. If Cleveland ends up hunting for a passer with a premium pick, these are the signal-callers worth watching now.
Oregon’s Dante Moore is right at the top of that conversation. He had a chance to battle Fernando Mendoza for the No. 1 quarterback spot in this April’s draft, but instead decided to return to the Ducks for another season.
Moore is 21 and already deep into his college journey, having started at UCLA before moving to Oregon for the last two years. He spent 2024 backing up Dillon Gabriel, then took over as Oregon’s starter last season and delivered 3,565 passing yards with 30 touchdowns and 10 interceptions over 15 games.
He enters this season with a real shot to be the best quarterback in the country.
Texas quarterback Arch Manning will draw plenty of attention too, and not just because of his play. Browns fans are going to know the name quickly, given that he’s the nephew of Peyton and Eli and that the Manning family has ties to Cleveland owner Jimmy Haslam.
Manning is heading into his fourth season with the Longhorns, but it’s only his second as the full-time starter. There was plenty of buzz before last season about him possibly going No. 1 in the 2026 NFL Draft, and while his year wasn’t dominant, he still flashed enough to keep that kind of ceiling in play.
He finished with 3,163 yards, 26 touchdowns and seven interceptions.
Notre Dame’s CJ Carr is another name that should stay on the Browns’ radar. He’s entering his redshirt sophomore season and will be in his second year as the full-time starter.
Last season, he threw for 2,741 yards with 24 touchdowns and just six interceptions. At 6-foot-3 and 210 pounds, he has the kind of frame NFL scouts tend to love, and if Notre Dame is as good as expected, Carr could get plenty of chances in meaningful games this winter to strengthen his case as a top pick.
South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers brings a different kind of appeal. At 6-foot-3 and 240 pounds, he’s a load to bring down, and that physicality makes him one of the most interesting draft-eligible quarterbacks in the class.
The passing game still needs polish, though. Last season, he completed only 60% of his throws, which was 5% lower than in 2025, even though he played 12 games in both seasons.
Ohio State quarterback Julian Sayin is one Browns fans will naturally watch closely. For much of last season, he looked like a legitimate contender to go No. 1 in the 2027 NFL Draft because of how well he was playing.
But his production dipped once the competition got tougher later in the year. He still completed 77% of his passes, which is elite accuracy, but his 6-foot-1 frame could create questions.
There’s even a chance he settles in as a late first-round type rather than an early pick. Cleveland does own the Los Angeles Rams’ first-round pick next year, which could put Sayin in play.
Ole Miss quarterback Chambliss came out of nowhere a year ago. He transferred from FCS Ferris State last offseason and was expected to back up Austin Simmons, but an early injury opened the door.
Chambliss took the job and never gave it back. He ended up leading Ole Miss to the College Football Playoff semifinals, and now he heads into another SEC season trying to cement himself as one of the top quarterbacks in the 2027 draft class.
USC’s Maiava could also end up near the top of that draft conversation. Lincoln Riley has a track record that speaks for itself, having developed Baker Mayfield, Kyler Murray and Caleb Williams into No. 1 picks. Maiava threw for 3,711 yards last season with 24 touchdowns and 10 interceptions, and at 6-foot-4 and 230 pounds, he has the size Cleveland would likely appreciate in a quarterback built for the AFC North.
Miami’s Mensah is another transfer worth monitoring after leaving Duke for a new home. The Hurricanes have already had success with transfer quarterbacks, with Cam Ward becoming a top pick and Carson Beck leading the team to the national title game. Mensah could follow a similar path, and he may resemble Ward more than Beck, which only boosts his chances of becoming a high draft pick.
North Texas quarterback Mestemaker may not be a household name yet, but he should be on the list. He spent the last two seasons with the Mean Green and followed head coach Eric Morris to the Cowboys.
Last year, Mestemaker put up huge numbers, throwing for 4,379 yards and 34 touchdowns. The jump to the Big 12 will bring a tougher test, but he’ll be worth watching to see how his game translates.
The final name on the list is LSU’s Leavitt, one of the first major transfers Lane Kiffin brought in after taking over this winter. Leavitt spent the previous two seasons at Arizona State and was limited to seven games last year because of injury. Kiffin’s offense has long been friendly to quarterbacks, and this move gives Leavitt a strong chance to show what he can do.
