Browns Eye QB Shake-Up That Could Shock Fans

Browns draft strategy hints at a patient, long-term approach to filling the quarterback position amid an underwhelming class.

The Cleveland Browns are at a crossroads when it comes to their quarterback situation. Last season highlighted their need for a reliable QB, and as we gear up for another year, it seems the dilemma persists. With Shedeur Sanders and Deshaun Watson likely set to compete in training camp, the Browns are still searching for a long-term solution.

General Manager Andrew Berry faces a critical decision. Should he invest heavily in a top-tier free agent or explore trade options?

Or perhaps, take a gamble on a rookie quarterback? Browns insider Tony Grossi suggests that the team might lean towards the latter, but not in the way you might expect.

Grossi hints that the Browns aren't looking to find their franchise quarterback in the early rounds of this draft. Instead, they might bring in another arm for training camp without using a high draft pick.

"I don’t see them drafting a QB early," Grossi shared on ESPN Cleveland. "By that, I mean first and second day.

Will they draft one after that? Possibly, why not?

Much later. Someone who wouldn’t be a threat to be a starting quarterback as a rookie."

While this approach might seem underwhelming, it’s not necessarily a setback. The Browns have 10 projected draft picks, with five in the later rounds, giving them the flexibility to take a calculated risk. This year's quarterback class may not be stellar, but some Day 3 prospects were once seen as top-tier talents.

Names like Garrett Nussmeier, Drew Allar, or Cade Klubnik could be on the Browns' radar. Initially, they wouldn’t challenge Sanders or Watson, but with the right coaching, they might develop into solid backups or even future starters.

The reality is, the Browns are more than just a quarterback away from being contenders. Rebuilding the offensive line and enhancing their passing game are also crucial. That's why using a high draft pick on a quarterback in this lackluster class might not be the wisest move.

Developing Shedeur Sanders remains a promising path, but patience and strategic planning will be key for the Browns as they navigate this pivotal offseason.
