South Carolina has suddenly become one of the hotter teams in the SEC, and now the Gamecocks get another road test with Oklahoma waiting on Saturday afternoon.
After beating Florida 38-19 on Oct. 10 and then knocking off No. 11 Tennessee 27-24 on a last-second field goal on Oct.
24, South Carolina heads to Norman trying to stack a third straight conference win for the first time since it won four in a row in 2024. The Gamecocks are 4-3 overall and 2-3 in league play, and the trip to face the Sooners arrives with some real momentum behind them.
Kickoff is set for Saturday, Oct. 31 at 4:15 p.m. at Gaylord Family Oklahoma Memorial Stadium. The game will air on SEC Network.
This series has been all about the road team. Saturday will be the third meeting between South Carolina and Oklahoma, and the visitors have won each time.
South Carolina won 35-9 in Norman in 2024, while Oklahoma answered with a 26-7 win at Williams-Brice last year. In that matchup, the Sooners sacked LaNorris Sellers six times, and John Mateer passed for 150 yards and a touchdown.
Oklahoma opened as a 5.5-point favorite over South Carolina on DraftKings and VegasInsider, the consensus ranking of sportsbooks.
The Gamecocks have spent the last two weeks showing they can finish. Against Tennessee, they scored the final 10 points in the final four minutes, capped by Malik Orsan’s 47-yard field goal as time expired. That win followed the Florida victory and helped push South Carolina out of the three-game skid that had slowed its season earlier.
There’s also a familiar face on the other sideline. Shane Beamer is back in a building tied to his past, just as he was the previous week. He was Oklahoma’s associate head coach and coached tight ends from 2018-20 before taking over at South Carolina.
Oklahoma comes in at 4-3 overall and 2-2 in the SEC. The Sooners started the year ranked No. 10 in the Associated Press preseason poll, but that quickly changed after a loss to Michigan and a close win over New Mexico. They have beaten Texas, but they still have not put together back-to-back wins this season.
The Sooners are coming off a 23-15 win at Mississippi State on Oct. 24, a game in which Mateer threw for 283 yards and two touchdowns. Oklahoma’s offense has been uneven all season, though it did produce a season-high 483 yards against Mississippi State. Even with that outing, the Sooners rank 15th out of 16 SEC teams in scoring at 21.5 points per game and sit last in the league in rushing and total offense at 333.7 yards per game.
Brent Venables is in his fifth season leading Oklahoma. Before that, he was the defensive coordinator at Clemson from 2012-21, where he faced South Carolina every year.
LaNorris Sellers remains the engine for the Gamecocks. The three-year starter is third in the SEC in total offense at 293.5 yards per game and ranks eighth overall in rushing with 508 yards. He accounted for the game-tying touchdown against Tennessee and has completed 60.7% of his passes for 1,548 yards and 13 touchdowns.
Fred “JR” Johnson delivered the best statistical game of his career against Tennessee, posting 14 tackles with 10 solo stops. It was the third time he has reached double digits in tackles in a game. On the season, the junior linebacker is second on the team with 48 tackles, including 3 for loss.
For Oklahoma, Isaiah Sategna III remains the top target. The Arkansas transfer was a second-team all-SEC selection last season after catching 67 passes for 965 yards and eight touchdowns. Through seven games this year, he has 41 receptions for 578 yards and three scores.
David Stone is another key name on the Sooners’ side. The former five-star recruit has 29 tackles, 3.5 for loss, and two sacks this season, and ESPN’s Mel Kiper ranks him as the third-best defensive lineman prospect.
South Carolina’s schedule has taken it from a dominant opener against Kent State, to a tight win over Tennessee, and now into another heavyweight SEC road game. The rest of the slate still has Texas A&M, Arkansas, Georgia and Clemson ahead, but first comes Oklahoma, another chance for the Gamecocks to prove this late-season surge is for real.

Dabo Swinney Just Put A Clemson Starter On Notice
Clemsons offense has been searching for more consistency, and Dabo Swinney made it clear this week that the conversation starts with accountability. Sophomore running back Gideon Davidson has still led the Tigers in rushing yards and touchdowns, but Swinney pointed to missed assignments and costly decisions as part of what has slowed the unit down, especially in the recent loss to Virginia Tech.
The concerns are bigger than just ball production, too. Davidson has seen his playing time affected after two sacks allowed and a couple of poor reads on key snaps, and with competition building in the backfield, his hold on the starting job is suddenly something to watch. Swinney still believes Davidson is committed and has the ability to bounce back, but the message was clear: the margin for error is getting smaller. [Read more 🡒]
Clemson's QB Decision Looks Different After Dabo's Latest Explanation
Clemsons quarterback plan took a turn because of circumstances as much as performance, with Dabo Swinney explaining that Christopher Vizzinas arm injury changed the shape of the competition. Vizzina was limited in practice and wasnt fully available for games, which forced the staff to adjust its evaluation and lean into a different option when it came time to settle on a starter.
Swinney said Vizzina is now closer to full health, but Tait Reynolds remains the guy for the moment as Clemson moves forward. The door is not shut on the battle entirely, either, since the coaching staff could keep revisiting the position if the offense continues to sputter. [Read more 🡒]
Clemson Commit Jamarin Simmons Just Reached Another Big Recruiting Milestone
Jamarin Simmons is set for another notable stop on the recruiting trail, with the Navy All-American Bowl Road to the Dome tour scheduled to come through Amos P. Godby High School in Tallahassee on Oct. 30, 2026. The Clemson commit will be honored as a 2027 Navy All-American during a school-wide pep rally, adding another layer to what has already become a major senior-year recognition for one of the Tigers prized pledges.
Simmons is slated to take part in the annual East vs. West matchup at the Alamodome in San Antonio on Jan. 9, 2027, joining a group of 100 All-Americans being celebrated through live and virtual jersey presentations. For Clemson, it is another reminder of the caliber of talent still coming into the program, and another chance for the fan base to track a commitment whose profile keeps rising on a national stage.
